Description of Job

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN: $16.00/HOUR Responsible for all general park maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep.
  • Cleaning of public facilities including restrooms, showers, vault toilets, cabins, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc.
  • Operate and perform routine maintenance on State owned vehicles, facilities, and equipment.
  • Provide quality customer service information and assistance to visitors.
  • Assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work and transporting materials and supplies
  • Other duties as assigned
TRAIL CREW -HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR: $20.00/HOUR: This position will coordinate work for the park trail crew. Planning, evaluating, training, teambuilding, completing work and ensuring safety of the trail crew are the primary focus of the Trail Coordinator. This position is designed to maintain and improve existing trail systems on the State Forest State Park.
  • This position is tasked with motorized trail as well as non-motorized trail maintenance. There are many miles of heavily used trails throughout this property. Trail Coordinator may work alone or in a group and will be provided assistance in duties if necessary.
  • This position often works in the backcountry.
  • This is a customer service based agency so this position will work with the public. This position may be called on to assist other positions such as maintenance, rangers or visitor services at times.
  • Heavy equipment such as excavator, skid steer, backhoe, tractor, dump truck and chain saws, Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV’s), etc. will be used to complete tasks.
  • Knowledge of how to operate an excavator is preferred.
  • This is a manual labor position that requires Trail Coordinator to be outdoors and exposed to the elements on a daily basis. Trails range in elevation from 8,500 feet to 13,000 feet above sea level.
  • The park will provide some uniform items, but employees will be required to purchase other items at their own expense.
VISITOR SERVICES TECHNICIAN: $16.00/HOUR A customer service based position that involves working in a visitor center greeting visitors, and/or may be assigned to work as an entrance gate attendant. Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
  • Staff the park entrance station.
  • Provide information and assistance to visitors (distributes maps/ brochures, orients visitors to park facilities and amenities, promotes education programs, educates on State Park regulations, etc.).
  • Sell parks passes, permits, books, maps, clothing, firewood and other novelties
  • Sell gift certificates, search and rescue cards, boat registrations, Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) and snowmobile registrations and permits, and fishing and hunting licenses.
  • Operate a cash register.
  • Answer telephones and transfer/take messages.
  • Photo-copy and file documents.
  • Collect revenue, complete shift report, and balance shift box at end of each shift.
  • May prepare campground reservations forms and documents.
  • May document and report visitor complaints.
  • Clean and perform light maintenance duties, including litter pick up.
  • May assist with special events or programs within the park.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS COORDINATOR: $16.00/HOUR This is a customer service based position that involves facilitating park interpretive and environmental education programs. Develop and present natural resources/historical related programs to park visitors. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
  • Schedule, plan and present Junior Ranger programs
  • Schedule, plan and present school and group programs
  • Schedule, plan and present campfire programs and guided hikes
  • Schedule, plan and present outreach programs
  • Provide roving interpretation in campgrounds and day use areas
  • Work with individual and group volunteers
  • May train volunteer naturalists
  • Work with other State, Federal and local agency naturalists
  • Market and promote attendance at programs
  • May develop brochures and other written materials
  • May work the visitor center front desk
  • May assist with coordination and facilitate special events as needed
  • May assist with promotion of the park through social media as needed
  • Collect, catalog, organize and protect park collections of slides, photographs, specimens, etc.
  • Attend assigned training sessions
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Crew members may work alone or in a group and will be provided assistance with duties, if necessary. This position often works in the backcountry.
  • This is a customer service based agency so this position will work with the public.
  • This position may be called on to assist other positions such as maintenance, rangers or visitor services at times.
  • Hand tools, chain saws, Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV’s), skid steer/tractor, etc. will be used to complete tasks.
  • This is a manual labor position that requires Crew Member to be outdoors and exposed to the elements on a daily basis. Trails range in elevation from 8,500 feet to 13,000 feet above sea level.
  • The park will provide some uniform items, but employees will be required to purchase other items at their own expense.
  • Note: This position is up to 40 hours per week and up to six months in duration. School schedules MAY be accommodated.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license or have reliable transportation.
  • Successful completion and passing of background screening may be required for placement in this position.
  • Must have or be able to attain valid current First Aid and CPR certifications during employment.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be willing and able to work various shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Some uniform items will be provided, however employees may be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense.
HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must possess experience and skills to operate heavy equipment (Excavator, Skid Steer, Backhoe, Tractor, etc.)
  • Must have or be able to attain First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Must be able to perform physical work in adverse conditions
  • Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and holidays
  • Previous Heavy Equipment and trail supervision experience required
TRAIL CREW MEMBERS REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must have or be able to attain First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Must be able to perform physical work in adverse conditions
  • Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and holidays
  • Previous trail supervision experience preferred
