Position Title: Thermoforming Machine Operator

Reporting into Title: Production Supervisor

Business and Department: VPPE


Position Purpose/Summary: The Thermoforming Machine Operator Technician is the primary operator of the forming machines and is responsible for consistently and in a safe manor for set-up, maintenance, waste, material utilization and production of customer product orders and for meeting specifications for total quality and efficiency. The Technician assures the thermoforming machine is operating properly and at or above standard levels of operation and must follow company procedures for safety, and provide accurate and timely reporting of production data to comply with the companies Good Manufacturing Practices. The Technician is responsible for performing maintenance and mechanical related duties within the production area. The Technician is responsible and will work with Packer/Inspectors to resolve any quality issues as needed.

Knowledge-Skills-Abilities (minimum)


Education:

  • A high school degree or G.E.D equivalent.

Experience (years and topics):

  • 2-10 years of roll-fed Thin Gauge thermoform production manufacturing experience is required

  • 2-10 years of shop mathematics, reading ad understanding of engineering and tool shop drawings and must possess the knowledge and demonstrate the use of a variety of precision measuring instruments

  • Thermoform machine set-up experience is required

  • Knowledge of and operation of Kiefel KMD 78, Sencorp 2500 and 2500 Ultra, Lyle Thermoformers is not required but will be considered a Plus.


Technology/Software (years):

  • 2-10 years of general computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office products (Excel, Word).

  • 2-10 years of general knowledge in the use of Machine Touch Control Panels and (HMI) Human Machine Interface control panels.


Communication:

  • Must have ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English including legible handwriting
  • Must be flexible to move to another shift in order to meet production schedule and work overtime as needed

Position Responsibilities-Tasks-Deliverables

All duties as assigned and the following specific activities:

  • Excellent attendance is crucial for the team to achieve success.
  • Knowledge of and adhere to all VPPE safety guidelines
  • Knowledge of and able to follow all guidelines for VPPE GMP’s. (Good Manufacturing Practices)
  • Responsible for operating thermoform machinery while following safety requirements and assure safety procedures are followed in the work area.
  • Produce a variety of molded plastic parts by loading raw material, setting and adjusting cycle times, temperatures, pressures and cycle machine to ensure efficient, proper and safe operations.
  • Ensure machine is operating at or above established forming standards.
  • Ensure safe work environment and abide by 5S and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, training and direction to other thermoformers on the shift.
  • Perform in-process manufacturing quality inspections of product throughout the entire production run to assure that customer’s product meets visual standards of acceptance.
  • Responsible for producing product to customers manufacturing order in the proper quantity as identified by the production schedule and production line report record.
  • Assures all manufacturing equipment is well maintained, greased and calibrated per machine manufacture’s specifications.
  • Monitors production efficiency; addresses line stoppage and initiates immediate process and problem solving to correct the cause and issues.
  • Report material utilization in the production report.
  • Insure daily production report data is entered on time, is concise and up to date.
  • Recognize defective materials for color, surface blemishes, cracks and rips, finish and sheet thickness dimensions.
  • Segregate non-conforming materials and ensure non-conforming report (NCR) procedure is followed and reported to management in a timely manner.
  • Ensures machine set up procedure is followed and the appropriate materials are at production line prior to each production run.
  • Maintain the integrity of all customer/company owned production tools and property.
  • Identify the proper tooling required for pending production.
  • Inspect condition of molds, component parts and steel rule knives for damage and wear.
  • Document repairs/maintenance of tools and report to management in a timely manner.
