    Position: Thornapple Area Parks and Recreation Commission Board Member


    Thornapple Kellogg School district has two open positions on the Thornapple Area Parks and Recreation Commission Board. TAPRC is an organization with representation from three jurisdictions: Village of Middleville, Thornapple Township and Thornapple Kellogg Schools.

    TAPRC provides all people with the opportunity to be active through affordable, safe and healthy recreational activities.

    There are three representatives from each of the three entities, and TK Schools has two openings.

    Job Summary:
    A TAPRC Board member will oversee and execute the organization’s mission, programs, policies and needs. Each board member will find a unique and defined role within the larger administrative role to oversee the entire organization.

    Responsibilities:

    • Administration
      • Prepare, attend and actively participate in a monthly meeting
      • Approve general operations, budgets and other organization decisions
      • Ensure compliance with the TAPRC Entity Agreement
      • Develop and implement a Strategic Plan (including 5-year plan)
      • Understand the organization’s finances and ensure fiduciary responsibilities are met.
      • Work with and evaluate the youth baseball & softball program director
    • Board Specialty Roles
      • Chair/Co-Chair (lead admin and United Way responsibilities)
      • Finance (treasurer: lead budget reviews and bi-annual audit)
      • Fundraising (sponsorship letters, grants, endowment funds, year-end giving)
      • Marketing (managing website and social media)
      • Events (Canoe Race and Used Sports Equipment Sale)
    • Community Engagement
      • Attend board meetings for the entity you represent and build a working relationship with that entity. (All)
      • Sheridan Park Planning (All)
      • United Way Liaison (Chair/Co-Chair)
      • Blue Zones Liaison (Chair/Co-Chair)
      • Charity Shed (All)
