The Water/Wastewater Facilities Trainer identifies training needs, develops training courses and conducts training for all levels of staff within the Production Department. The Trainer performs skill evaluations and provides technical assistance to staff.

Essential Functions
  • Provides water/wastewater instruction to all Production Department staff in support of the facility technician & operations specialist programs


  • Prepares training manuals, visual aids, self-assessment instruments, evaluations, forms and charts to supplement training activities

  • Performs training needs analysis and interprets findings to establish programs and services to increase employee knowledge and skills related to water/wastewater topics

  • Evaluates employee skills and abilities as subject matter expert on skills review panel

  • Maintains automated training records, evaluates trainees’ classroom performance and reports progress to supervisors

  • Evaluates existing programs, resources and policies, monitors effectiveness of programs and policies and makes recommendations for changes, as needed

  • Keeps abreast of developments in water/wastewater technology and the latest available courses, training aides, techniques and new developments

  • Develops Production Department library of resources, publications and training events

  • Provides remedial water/wastewater training, as needed

  • Makes on-site inspections and evaluates methods and procedures used in the water/wastewater industry

  • Utilizes computer-based software to prepare training materials including Microsoft Power Point, Word, and Excel

  • Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business

Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices governing the operation of modern water and wastewater treatment plants


  • Good knowledge of the chemical, biological, and physical processes involved in the treatment of water and wastewater

  • Good knowledge of applicable certification regulations and applicable safety standards and policies

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, formulate, assign and supervise classroom activities

  • Ability to present ideas and recommendations effectively in verbal and written forms

  • Ability to establish cooperative work relationships with public officials, employees and leaders; good professional judgment, tact and discretion

  • Good communication, organizational, and teaching skills

  • Ability to effectively present ideas and recommendations in verbal and written forms (including diagrams, specifications, Microsoft Power Point, Word, and Excel)

Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4+ years water/wastewater experience as a senior-level operator


OR
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 8+ years water/wastewater experience as a senior- level operator


Identifies training needs, develops training courses and conducts water/wastewater training for all levels of Production Department personnel; provides skill evaluations and technical assistance to personnel on water/wastewater matters.
