Introduction

The Siletz Tribal Transit Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination of transit services provided either directly by the Tribe or through services contracted to non-Tribal agencies. This person will be expected to maximize the use of available transit resources (vehicles and personnel) to serve the largest number of individuals in the most cost-effective way, consistent with established policies and priorities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in public administration, Planning, or Geography and one year experience in transit program scheduling and operations and/or program administration – OR – Associates degree in public administration, planning or geography with Two years in transit program scheduling and operations and/or program administration or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Knowledge of: Word processing and spreadsheet software. Experience in: Tribal program administration or other management experience, preferred. Demonstrated organizational skills. Demonstrated analytical skills and creative ability. Ability to: Effectively coordinate people and projects. Identify goals, objectives, and resources. Formulate and evaluate plans to reach goals and objectives. Initiate and carry out required work with minimal supervision. Communicate effectively using both verbal and written skills. Other: Must possess a valid Oregon State driver’s license, insurance and be eligible to drive a GSA vehicle.

Duties:

Prepares and submits all required reports to program funding agencies, including Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Federal Transit Agency (FTA). Assists Planner/Grant Writer in preparing grant applications for continued funding of ongoing transit programs. Works with all affected constituencies to develop policies on eligibility for bus passes, access to Tribal van services, and related services. Supports the Planning Director and contractors in maintaining the Indian Reservation Road inventory for the Tribe. Works with the Planning Director on updates to the Transportation System Plan and annual updates of the Transportation Improvement Plan. Works with the Planning Director to develop and maintain all other transportation program policies and procedures. Organizes and coordinates activities of Tribal Transit Advisory Committee. Promotes cooperation and coordination among all Tribal personnel and programs that provide and/or require transit services for their clients to ensure maximum use of Tribal resources. Ensures that the availability of rides provided by federally funded Tribal vehicles is consistent with federal requirements. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and members of the general public. Performs other duties as assigned.

After the six-month probation the employee will be evaluated of his/her performance and at that time, it will be, decided if the employee is entitled to a regular employee status.
