The Trauma PI Coordinator works in collaboration with the Trauma Program Manager (TPM), Trauma Medical Director (TMD) and the interdisciplinary team that participates in the management of care provided to the injured patient. The Trauma PI Coordinator evaluates the quality of trauma care from the prehospital setting to hospital discharge. The Trauma PI Coordinator is responsible for coordination and facilitation of the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Program (PIPS) including injury prevention activities, data collection, analysis, trending and benchmarking of data and outcomes. Participates in trauma registry data collection, data validations, understanding of injury scoring, statistical data analysis, and report design to support outreach, injury prevention and research initiatives. Collaborates with trauma program leadership to ensure compliance with the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services Trauma Designation regulations, the American College of Surgeons standards, and the hospital facility quality measures related to Performance Improvement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN).

2. Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Three (3) years’ experience in Emergency Nursing, Critical Care nursing or Trauma Nursing experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. TNCC instructor.

2. Trauma Certified Registered Nurse Certification.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Experience in Quality Improvement and research.

1. Maintains secure and confidential documentation of all PI activities, including patient performance improvement files, minutes of Peer review and process improvement meetings.

2. Maintains current knowledge of and ensures compliance with the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services Trauma Designation regulations, the American College of Surgeons standards, and the hospital facility quality measures related to Performance Improvement.

3. Develops and assists team members in developing action plans for process improvement and ensures follow through and loop closure on these plans.

4. Works closely with the Trauma Registry to ensure accurate data collection and identification of performance improvement audit filters and events. Works with registry staff to develop and execute queries from the registry, using standard query tools.

5. Participates in organizational-wide continuous improvement projects as it relates to the Trauma Performance and Patient Safety program (PIPS).

6. Participates in the national trauma performance improvement program (TQIP) by Collaboration with the trauma leadership team and other key stakeholders to implement the annual Trauma PIPS Program plan.

7. Documents all performance improvement activities i.e. weekly Trauma PI meeting, chart review, peer review presentation, include follow up and loop closure.

8. Participates in the monthly interdisciplinary Trauma PIPS Committee. Shares appropriate data and document all information for the peer review protected minutes.

9. Develops and maintains monthly data reporting and tracking. Oversees data validation efforts to ensure data reliability as it relates to PIPS activities.

10. Assists with designing interdisciplinary clinical protocols in consultation with Trauma Medical Director and trauma program leadership.
