Job Summary: The Truck Body Builder / Installer role encompasses a wide variety of skills enabling the Builder / Installer to essentially complete all aspects of a customer job from start to finish. This position requires the individual, under limited supervision, be able to weld, fabricate parts and build bodies as well as be able to integrate / install hydraulic, electrical and mechanical components and assemblies per instruction laid out in job’s traveler or manufacturer’s installation guides. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reads and interprets blueprints and engineering plans.
  • Develops layouts and plans sequences of operations.
  • Drills holes and bolts metal framework and supports in place.
  • Cuts, drills, welds and fits brackets, supports, covers, and fixtures from different materials.
  • Bolts and screws control panels and assembled operating units to framework.
  • Connects electrical wiring and cables.
  • Installs lighting fixtures, outlets, switches, wall boxes, and terminal boards.
  • Installs hydraulic hoists and electric over hydraulic hoists, cranes, compressors, outriggers and hookloaders.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent form two-year college or technical school and one to two years of experience; or three to four years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

The employee must maintain the ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints schematics, welding symbols, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. The employee must also have the ability to write basic instructions and information.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

The employee must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. The employee must maintain the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Forklift Certification

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Electronic Technology.
  • Ability to operate cranes and hoists.
  • MIG and TIG welding.
