Pennsylvania American Water has a full-time opening for a Utility Person to join our operations in Sinking Spring, PA. We are seeking a motivated, team player who likes variety in their work day and wants to stand behind our goal of producing and providing a clean and healthy resource to our local customers. As a utility person, you work directly on production and distribution assets in the field. You will tend to well stations, communicate with customers, exercise hydrants, turn valves and perform preventative maintenance.
Primary Role
Performs a variety of tasks in supervising and participating in the locating, laying, repairing, and extending underground water mains and distribution pipes. Actively involved in or makes process control decisions associated with the operation of water treatment and related processes with the well systems in this district.
Key Accountabilities

Manually digs valve boxes and curb boxes, using shovel and digging bar.

Guides pipe sections, valves and fittings into position and holds pieces steady while worker tightens connections.

Taps into pressurized water mains.

Flares and connects copper and plastic piping.

Operates valves and fire hydrants.

Investigates complaints and determines corrective action per company procedure.

Drives vehicles and/or trucks in performance of general job.

Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Performs checks on wells and provides maintenance as needed.

Knowledge/Skills

Mechanical ability sufficient to understand the operation of pumps, valves, motors and other mechanical equipment related to operations and maintenance.

Working knowledge of distribution/collection systems.

Comfortable utilizing technology hardware and software

Experience/Education

GED/High School graduate with vocational preparation includes an occupationally significant combination of vocational education, apprentice training, on-the- job training, and/or in-plant training or essential experience in less responsible jobs which lead to the higher job or serving in other jobs

Work Environment

Work is in environmental conditions including contact with wastewater, chemicals, fumes, odors and dust as a result of working with handling potentially hazardous wastewater treatment and laboratory chemicals.

Exposure to potentially harmful pathogens and gases in raw unprocessed wastewater creating potential for blood borne/airborne disease.

Electrical hazard conditions.

Exposure to inclement weather mostly of short duration

Other Job Requirements

Pass D . O.T . physical examination.

Valid driver's license

Obtain a PA DEP water related licensing as required

Hours/Schedule

Full-time, day shift

Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm

Rotating on-call responsibility
