Purpose
The purpose of this classification, under the direction of the Vehicle Mechanic Supervisor, is to diagnose and repair various size automotive vehicles and other City equipment. Employees in this classification perform skilled mechanical work in diagnosing, repairing and servicing vehicles and equipment. Position performs facility and vehicle cleaning, facility maintenance and ensures that adopted safety standards are adhered to when performing all assigned work. Performs related work as required. Drug Screening
NOTE: This position requires a drug screen. If applicant did not receive drug screening upon initial hire with the City, applicant will be required to submit to drug screening prior to accepting this position. Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience - High school diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years previous experience and/or training in the automotive/vehicle service industry. Experience should include diagnosing and repairing passenger, light duty and heavy duty trucks, and knowledge and compliance with adopted safety standards for a service/repair facility. Additional experience in diagnosing and repairing vocational vehicles and construction equipment a plus.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires possession of and ability to maintain a valid Florida Driver"s License. Must obtain a Florida Commercial Driver"s License (CDL) Class "B" with no restrictions within six (6) months of employment and maintain such license during the term of employment in this position.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs diagnostic examinations using computers to ascertain what vehicle or equipment systems need repairing

Performs a variety of mechanical repair work on vehicles and equipment Performs preventative maintenance service work on vehicles and equipment Performs emergency road repair service to vehicles and equipment
Installs emergency warning lights

Picks up parts, materials and/or supplies Transports vehicles
Performs facility and vehicle cleaning and facility maintenance Ensures compliance with all adopted governmental safety standards Opens and closes service orders utilizing computer system.

Knowledge of Job: Has considerable knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the City of Daytona Beach as such pertain to the performance of the essential duties of Automotive Mechanic. Has considerable knowledge of principles and practices of skilled mechanical work. Must be familiar with door locks/latches, air conditioning systems, and automotive transmissions. Has considerable knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Has considerable knowledge of the organization of the department, and of related departments and agencies. Clearly understands the occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform the essential functions of the work. Has considerable knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the department as such pertain to work responsibilities. Knows how to maintain cooperative and effective relationships with intra- and interdepartmental personnel, as well as any external entities with which position interacts.

Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility.
