Veterans Mentor Coordinator Job at Washington County, OR

Washington County, OR Hillsboro, OR 97124

THE POSITION

*** This posting has been extended until 4/9/2023***
The Washington County District Attorney’s (DA) Office is currently recruiting for a part-time Veterans Mentor Coordinator for the Washington County Veterans Treatment Court program . Washington County Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) is a criminal court program designed for offenders whose honorable military service is somehow linked to their criminal conduct; for example, a wounded warrior who subsequently developed an addiction to opiates and is now facing criminal drug charges.

The VTC grant funding supports a collaborative effort between the Washington County DA's Office, Circuit Court, Community Corrections Veteran Services, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Its goal is to address the underlying causes of a veteran's criminal conduct, whether it is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, traumatic brain injury (TBI), or any other condition related to their military service, so that they can return to being a proud, productive, law-abiding, and honorable citizen. By partnering with the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System and local Washington County resources, the VTC involves intensive supervision and treatment and connects the veteran to wraparound services including housing and employment opportunities.

The Veteran Mentor Coordinator is essential in maintaining the success of the Veteran Mentor Corp Program. The Veteran Mentor Coordinator will supervise the volunteer veteran mentors, oversee mentor recruitment and training, serve as a liaison between the mentors and the treatment court team, and continue developing the Veteran Mentor Program in collaboration with the VTC Coordinator. Confidentiality between the mentor and mentee is highly important to maintain trust within the mentoring relationship. As such, the Veteran Mentor Coordinator must use discretion when discussing any details or disclosures made to a mentor by a mentee in VTC staffing or any other meetings.

Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a veteran of one of the branches of the U.S. Armed Forces or their corresponding Reserve and Guard components OR a civilian with experience (personal or professional) working with veterans. An ideal candidate will benefit from prior work within any combination of the criminal justice system, the continuum of veterans’ services, or the field of addictions/recovery. The candidate should be able to commit to at least one year as the Veteran Mentor Coordinator and be able to commit to, but not exceed, an average of 10 hours per week. A successful candidate will have strong administrative and interpersonal skills, must adhere to all Washington County VTC policies and procedures, and complete the required initial training as specified by the Court prior to beginning other duties and responsibilities, as well as any additional training or continuing education as required by the Washington County VTC. All required training will be provided to the Veteran Mentor Coordinator at no cost.

This grant has been awarded and funding is available for a part-time position through September 30, 2026, with the possibility of renewal.
