JOB PURPOSE:
The Volunteer Support Specialist is responsible for directly supporting and retaining adult volunteers and girl members in an assigned geographic area by providing mentoring, developing and delivering resources, and establishing and maintaining partnerships. Additionally, they nurture relationships with community partners that could offer unique programming for girls or support Girl Scouts programming financially, seamlessly transitioning those relationships to other departments for ongoing cultivation.


Essential Functions

  • Increases a positive impact of Girl Scouts in our community by meeting or exceeding annual membership retention goals for girl and adult members.
  • Collaborates closely with departmental management and other departments to inform membership and partner development strategies, plans, and tactics.
  • Provides ongoing effective support, communication, supervision, and direction managing council relationships and engagement with service units, community program partners, and troops, as well as between members and volunteers. Monitors service unit, community program, and troop health and proactively addressing barriers to success.
  • Prepares for conversations and visits with members and volunteers by gathering key information and setting strong objectives to achieve successful outcomes. Able to share the Girl Scout value proposition through a variety of communication venues.
  • Establishes the appropriate volunteer support teams to meet council goals by ensuring volunteer positions are filled by recruiting, selecting, appointing, and supervising key volunteers in assigned geographic areas.
  • Actively supports renewal strategies and attends volunteer service unit meetings.
  • Informs resource development proposals and grants based on experience in working with the community.
  • Collaborates with other departments to nurture and support new program delivery partners, financial sponsorships and grants, and volunteers.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure a positive onboarding experience for volunteers and community partners.
  • Provides community program evaluations with measurable outcomes for each partner-led group. Compile data from evaluations.
  • Performs other duties or assists other projects as assigned.


Required Qualifications


  • One to three years experience managing and/or working with volunteers.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to ensure effective interactions with individuals at all levels and backgrounds and to promote an environment of inclusivity across a wide geographic area.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, work independently, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proven record of customer responsiveness and active listening skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in making decisions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Texas drivers license, a safe driving record, current vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation to travel within Girl Scouts of Central Texas region.
  • Ability to commit to Girl Scouts philosophy, both nationally and locally.
  • Annual membership in GSUSA.
  • Satisfactory results from a criminal background check.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
  • Experience with customer relationship management tools and databases.

  • Bachelor's degree or any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Capable of lifting up to 30lbs.
  • Capable of viewing computer monitor for long periods.


Environmental Demands

  • Continuous indoor activity and exposure to florescent light.
  • Outdoor activities and exposure to weather.
  • Work some nights and weekends, as needed.
  • Frequent work under stress and under pressure of deadlines.
