The Position:

The Vice President, Film for Topic Studios will report to the Executive Vice President, Film & Documentary, and play a key role in driving and defining the film business for the award-winning independent studio. This position will be located in New York.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and source IP by engaging writers and filmmakers to shape film projects that meet the company's slate needs and targets
  • Oversee the selection of feature film projects for the company, serving as the key creative voice from development through post-production
  • Run timely review and the creative notes process across all stages from scripts to creative approvals to dailies and cuts
  • Serve as the executive on set for active productions as needed to ensure smooth creative and production operations and report back to creative and production heads as needed
  • Forge dynamic creative relationships between the company and key partners, including producers/production companies, buyers, filmmakers, actors and the key below-the-line talent
  • Work closely with producers and talent agencies to package projects, and to source and track new projects
  • Work with business affairs to drive dealmaking, including IP, talent and financing deals
  • Collaborate with internal departments including finance, BALA, PR
  • Other appropriately related projects/duties as assigned

Background & Qualifications

  • A senior and seasoned executive with a minimum of 6 years experience in a senior creative role or as a producer with a proven track record of developing and overseeing successful independent and studio film projects
  • Possesses a deep understanding of the filmmaking process and narrative structure with written and verbal communication skills to help projects achieve their creative and commercial potential
  • Ability to work intimately and collaboratively with top writers and filmmakers
  • A proven track record of supporting and actualizing notable film projects from start to finish
  • A strong network of existing creative relationships spanning writers, filmmakers, producers, and executives across production companies and major buyers
  • Working knowledge if not expertise with dealmaking, deal flow, film financing structures and waterfalls, as well as the physical production and post-production processes
  • Management and leadership skills with proven ability to handle complex, fast-arising issues with both creative and financial implications
  • Keen knowledge of the evolving marketplace for both independent and studio films
  • Willingness to travel frequently

Location: First Look Media/Topic Studios is located in New York City. This is a hybrid position that will be expected to be in the NYC office for 2 - 3 days each week.

Compensation (NYC Only): The salary range for this role is $180,000 - $210,000 annually. The salary offered will be determined based on relative experience, skillset and other job related factors.
