The Position:
The Wage Garnishment Specialist is responsible for specific payroll related wage garnishment applications and reporting. This position’s overall responsibility is to oversee the payroll garnishment operation and related activities, along with being back-up for the Payroll Associates.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and maintain the Lien Payee table in the Oracle Payroll System
  • Review documentation and accurately process any court-ordered wage garnishments such as Student Loans, Wage Assignments, Child Support Orders, Bankruptcy Orders, State and Federal Tax Levies on time
  • Examine and prioritize documents to determine work to be completed or best course of action
  • Ensure garnishments are applied correctly during payroll processing and completed in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations to ensure the deductions are calculated accurately
  • Upload Third-Party Vendor files to ADP for garnishment check generation
  • Balance payroll deduction reports against ADP Invoices
  • Prepare, send, and file earnings disclosures; prepare answers to writs of garnishment
  • Review, process and respond to garnishment orders
  • Sort, digitally file and maintain writs, communications, and other related documents
  • Provide the necessary reports to, and communicate with, internal and external customers as necessary
  • Research and respond to inquiries from employees, courts, state, and federal agencies regarding garnishments
  • Investigate and resolve any garnishment related issues
  • Help to resolve escalated/complex issues that require managerial intervention or involve other process areas
  • Monitor the regulatory environment to stay abreast of internal and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Complete special projects as assigned by department management

Qualifications
Job Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Prior experience in clerical or office position with experience in garnishment/payroll.
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of the various types of garnishments
    • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations relating to garnishments
    • Knowledge of payroll processing procedures
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong math skills
  • Strong computer and keyboarding skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to type and enter data with accuracy and efficiency
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to interact effectively with many different people and situations
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to read, write and speak effectively in English
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Excellent organizational, phone, basic math, and clerical skills
