Washington Reading Corps/AmeriCorps Service Member at EOCF

EOCF is a premiere preschool program, passionately serving the children and families of Clark County. The Washington Reading Corps members have a unique opportunity to gain work experience and help us serve our local community while earning money for your education. This great opportunity includes tutoring small groups of children (3-5 years old); working with other members to share resources with staff and families; plan and coordinate family literacy events, volunteers, newsletters and free book distributions. Training and mentoring are provided. Come join us and leave a legacy! General schedule is Monday- Friday day time hours.

Benefits: $1,523.81 monthly stipend (pre-tax), $6345 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon completion of 1,700 service hours, health insurance for member, paid mileage, plus loan forbearance and subsidized child care if eligible.

Time commitment: 10.5 months, 40 hours per week. 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. 1,700 hours served September 1, 2022 to July 15, 2023 or September 16, 2022 to July 31, 2023. There is also an 8 month position at 1200 hours (inquire if selected for interview). The term will be served at various active preschool classrooms in Clark County. Evening or weekend service outside of scheduled hours may be required.

Qualifications required: Become an AmeriCorps member (apply on website listed below); be at least 18 years of age (17 with written consent of legal guardian); high school diploma or GED, some college preferred; US citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien; ability to pass required criminal background checks and Tuberculosis test.

"Preferred" knowledge and skills: Community service mindset, love of reading and preschool-aged children, motivated, flexible, self-starter, experience with young children, event planning, MS Office Suite and internet, volunteer recruitment and coordination, donation solicitation, history of volunteerism, good communication, newsletter creation, team building, time management, and organization. An Associate's Degree are a plus. * Bi-lingual highly desired
