We are excited to announce we have new openings for our Food Service Worker, On-Call positions here at the wonderful Washington Soldiers Home in Orting, Washington!

Please Note: This recruitment will be used to fill multiple on-call positions; shifts and days off will vary.

  • This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to honorably discharged veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.

As a Food Service Worker for our Washington Soldiers Home, you'll be responsible for distributing food in a safe and sanitary manner, while also ensuring the nutritional needs of our residents are met.

Duties

Some of what you will be doing:


  • Ensuring residents are given nutritional meals, snacks and supplements by reading and following prescribed diets and food preferences.
  • Ensuring food is prepared safely; monitoring storage methods, food production and holding temperatures per regulations.
  • Performing simple cooking such as toast, boiled eggs, hot cereal; washing and peeling vegetables and fruits, etc.
  • Monitoring refrigeration units for outdated products.
  • Setting up and serving food orders; refilling condiments and napkins; monitoring and setting up salad bar.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing equipment and area, and other assigned duties.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


  • Ability to obtain a WA State Food Handlers Permit within two (2) weeks of hire and remain current.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Valid State Driver's License.

Other Information:

  • State employees must be fully vaccinated. Your vaccine status will be verified at New Employee Orientation.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • Must comply with health screening requirements by undergoing a tuberculosis skin test and remain current in CPR.
  • Must be able to lift 60 lbs and reach shelves for supplies. Able to push and pull with sufficient strength; walk, sit and bend in an unrestricted manner.
  • Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training and use of respiratory protection as required by the WA Industrial Safety & Act standards.
  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
