SUMMARY
The Web Developer is a member of the National Domestic Violence Hotline’s Communications team and works in partnership with the I.T. team. Under the supervision of the Communications Director, the Web Developer is responsible for performing complex web design and development work. They coordinate web development design, deployment, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance of The Hotline’s four websites and the four websites for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). See links to all sites below.
The Web Developer t is a thought leader within The Hotline who uses initiative and independent judgment to collaborate with teams on updating content and pages, implementing security protocols and accessibility, creating backups, sorting out software issues, and ensuring sites and tools are updated, reliable, designed, and implemented to maximize usefulness.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage four websites for The Holine: thehotline.org, espanol.thehotline.org, loveisrespect.org, espanol.loveisrespect.org/, and four websites for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV): https://ncadv.org/, https://www.4vawa.org/, https://www.mtedv.org/, https://www.teens4healthyrelationships.org/, and any other websites that may be added over time.
  • Be the on-call point of contact to address website technical issues in the event of an outage or website downtime.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on everything website and technology related by providing consultation to others.
  • Coordinate website changes alongside the Communications and I.T. teams.
  • Ensure data collection practices align with The Hotline’s values and do not collect personally identifiable information.
  • Function as the primary contact with WP Engine to address challenges or changes to The Hotline’s websites.
  • Manage the development of tool enhancements through software such as Caspio, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Cloudflare.
  • Work with The Hotline’s web service provider, TEAL Media, and serve as the primary contact for strategic design, development, and crisis support as requested by The Hotline, love is respect, and NCADV websites.
  • Ensure all websites comply with search engine optimization (SEO) principles by addressing security, server response codes, redirects, proper indexing, XML sitemaps, URL structure and sub-folders for navigation and website hierarchy, mobile-friendly or responsive content, site speed and page loads, and heading tags.
  • Coordinate all changes with the data team to complete all ETL pipeline updates.
  • Manage all hosting needs, including DNS management, domain name registrations, and SSL certificates.
  • Provide ad hoc support to I.T. team and work on special projects as needed.
  • Analyze webpages layout and sitemaps for efficiency and effectiveness; prepare graphics, text, and tables; and determine the size and arrangements of illustrative material and copy.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and make recommendations for existing information, technology systems, and processes by developing new standards, tools, and techniques.
  • Analyze web content for accessibility; recommend changes to make content accessible and remediate accessibility issues.
  • Perform testing to ensure websites are accessible and comply with state and federal laws; compile findings and prepare reports documenting results.
  • Develop and maintain web applications.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain software solutions and systems integration projects to enhance online communities.
  • Interact and communicate with The Hotline’s and NCADV’s information management team or hosting agency to address hardware or software issues affecting websites.
  • Track system usage, confer with management, and advise the status and progress of projects and processes.
  • Assist in the application and implementation of internet and intranet security.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field OR certification or Associate Degree from a two-year institution with significant web design or web development coursework.
  • 2–3 years experience in:
  • PHP-based programming experience.
  • Creating front-end HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript code.
  • Developing WordPress or similar PHP-based content management systems, including experience creating custom themes or plug-ins.
  • Preferred experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Cloudflare.
  • Link to working examples of websites, apps, and technology you have directly built and maintained.

  • Must understand accessibility and WCAG 2.1 Level A.A. standard for websites, tools, and technologies.

  • _The position is hybrid, mostly working remotely, with some in-person/in-office (South Austin area) work required.
