A Resident Assistant is a direct care position responsible for assisting with program operations and maintenance of the residence while supporting the staff of the program by providing quality services to clients. Resident Assistants specialize in engaging with clients and in creating a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals are able to work on accomplishing their goals.
Brief description of the essential functions:
  • Act in accordance with our Standards of Excellence & Philosophy Care at all times including maintaining professional ethics, boundaries and client confidentiality and working from a strength based perspective using evidence base practices (MI, CBT, Harm Reduction etc.)
  • Ensure the residence is maintained in a state of good repair, orderliness and is free from hazards (including mopping, cleaning and taking out trash)
  • Ensure all policies and procedures related to maintaining a safe and appropriate residential environment
  • Provide milieu coverage, including: monitoring and assessing the integrity of the program’s therapeutic milieu; empowering clients to act in accordance with the guidelines of the program; assisting clients in self-administration of medications; conducting controlled substance counts; conduct rounds; answering phones and the front door
  • Make emergency referrals (e.g. detox programs, DTA, hospital and after care placement)
  • Assist with inventory and management of food, household supplies and linen supplies; daily office and administrative functions (e.g. filing, phone coverage, reception, maintenance of daily house records and house log)
  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate client groups and complete required group facilitation documentation
  • Input client/program data in to Electronic Health Records and the Virtual Gateway (ESM)
  • Communicate to program staff any information specific to the management and maintenance of the facility that occurs during the shift
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of one year work experience in the field of addiction, HIV, homelessness and/or mental health or a certificate from a recognized counseling program or course of instruction.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a professional team.
  • Ability to relate to residents in an instructive, directive, firm yet compassionate manner.
  • Strong organizational, record keeping, writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the addiction recovery process, or a willingness to acquire it within the first six months of employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multi-cultural settings with diverse client groups.
  • Proficient computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Rate: $20.19/hour

  • Weekend – Saturday & Sunday 3pm-11pm ( 16 Hours)
  • Weekend – Saturday & Sunday 3:30pm-11:30pm ( 16 Hours)
  • Weekend – Saturday & Sunday 4pm-12am ( 16 Hours)
  • Weekend – Friday & Saturday 11pm-7am (16 hours)
  • Weekend – Friday & Saturday 11:30pm-7:30am (16 hours)
  • Weekend – Saturday & Sunday 11pm-7am (16 hours)
