Established Independent Multi-Specialty Practice and Lab is Seeking a Weekend Laboratory Assistant to join our Team!

Bethany Medical Center (BMC), a Multi-Specialty physician practice located in Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point is seeking a Weekend Laboratory Assistant for our LJP Laboratory in Kernersville.

Summary of Position:

The Weekend Laboratory Assistant performs the general daily specimen processing, testing, and quality assurance as set forth by the laboratory guidelines. The Weekend Laboratory Assistant personnel monitor laboratory temperatures, accessions samples and examine specimen integrity to ensure acceptable levels of performance. The Weekend Laboratory Assistant immediately notifies the Laboratory Manager or Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist of any problems or concerns as it relates to patient testing.

Responsibilities:

• Performs Minimum to Waived levels of testing as listed in the test menu.
• Follows procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, record maintenance of patient results and quality controls.
• Performs testing of proficiency samples and sees that testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
• Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies and documenting of all QC activities.
• Follows the laboratory’s policies whenever test systems are not within the laboratories established acceptable levels of performance.
• Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or notify the Laboratory Manager or other appropriate laboratory personnel.
• Ensures patient results are not reported until all corrective action have been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
• Documents all corrective actions taken when the test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
• Monitors test analyses and specimen examination.
• Ensures that the physical plant and environmental conditions are appropriate for the testing performed.
• Provides a safe environment from physical, chemical, and biological hazards.
• Accessions and processes laboratory specimens using good laboratory practices. Notifies originating clients of samples that deviate from acceptable standards in a timely fashion in order for specimen recollections.
• Performs other related duties as negotiated.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• High School Diploma.

Equipment:

• Waived laboratory testing only unless otherwise noted.

Typical Mental Demands:

• Must be able to analyze variables and choose an effective course of action. Must react favorably in stressful situations.
• Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people and situations.
• Emotional stability and personal maturity are important attributes of this position.

Physical Demands:

• Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate laboratory instruments and computer.
• Requires normal range of hearing and color vision.
• Requires standing, reaching, and lifting up to 50+ pounds.

Working Conditions:

• 10:00am-7:00pm shift
• Occasionally called on to work overtime hours.
