LAUNDRY ATTENDANT

1. INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE

1.1 The purpose of this standard procedure is to outline the authority, scope and responsibilities and the various reporting relationships for the position of the

Laundry Attendant. This Job Description is intended to serve as a general list of requirements for this position, the authority for action that the individual occupying this position has and responsibilities and duties to be performed. It is not intended as a contract for employment, nor does it guarantee employment for a period of time.

1.2 The General Manager retains the right to change any portion of this job description at any time and the incumbent will be notified in writing.

2. BASIC FUNCTION

2.1 The basic function of the Laundry Attendant is to wash soiled linens, dry and fold.

2.2 To ensure laundry and linen storage areas are maintained in accordance with the policies and procedures set forth by hotel management.

2.3 To inventory and report worn, stained and linen in need of repair to supervisor.

2.4 Work with and know the potential hazards of any chemicals used along with using the proper personal protective equipment required.

3. SCOPE, AUTHORITY AND REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

3.1 The Linen attendant’s immediate supervisor is the Head Housekeeper. The

Assistant or General Manager is available in the absence of a Head

Housekeeper.

3.2 Information about the hotel and its guests will be on an open basis needed to perform the job. Information obtained will remain strictly confidential in and outside the company.

4. BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

4.1 Education: Required: completion of 10th grade

Preferred: High School Diploma or equivalent

4.2 Experience: Required: None

4.3 Skills/Knowledge and abilities: Must be able to recognize necessary maintenance to equipment and laundry area. Must be able to follow instruction and keep work area clean and in order.

4.4 Physical Requirements:

Body Positions: This position requires extended periods of standing.

Body Movements: Walking, carrying, lifting, pulling, and climbing stairs.

Body Senses: Must be able to smell well enough to be alerted to smoke in the building quickly.

4.5 Mental Requirements:

Mathematics: Understand and can perform basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and basic algebraic relationships.

Language: Must be able to effectively communicate in English both written and oral.

Technical Abilities: Must be able to learn and understand all types of laundry equipment such as washer, dryer, chemical dispensers.

4.6 Working conditions: Work will mostly be conducted in a laundry room where temperature may be affected by equipment or by ambient outside air temperature.

5. MAJOR DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES
5.1 Will be responsible for the removal of linens from the chute or guest room beds as directed by head housekeeper.

5.2 Will be responsible for sorting linens while checking for soiled or stained linens needing pre-soaking or stain removal.

5.3 Will be responsible for loading linens into washer in accordance with the load charts provided by the manufacturer and management.

5.4 Will be responsible for the transfer of linen from the washer to the dryer in accordance to the manufacturer’s and managements instruction.

5.5 Will be responsible for removing dry linen from the dryer to the laundry cart.

5.6 Will be responsible for folding all linens and towels in accordance to the hotel policies and procedures.

5.7 Will be responsible for delivering laundry to the designated storage area as directed by the head housekeeper.

5.8 Will be responsible for understanding and applying all hotel or brand safety and security procedures.

5.9 Will be responsible for reporting any needed supplies, chemicals or linen shortage to head housekeeper.

5.10 Will be responsible for the daily care of all laundry equipment including tops of dryers, lint screens, stainless steel, back of equipment, drains and oil as recommended by the manufacturer.

5.11 Will be responsible for keeping the laundry room clean at all times including sinks, counters, floors and garbage.

6. MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE

6.1 To the degree that linen is washed and dried daily in accordance with the policies and procedures set forth by management.
6.2 To the degree that a safe, clean and sanitary laundry area is maintained.

6.3 The degree to which a positive attitude is expressed to guests and coworkers.

7. REVIEW

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
