Camp Chateaugay is a traditional, residential, co-ed, summer camp located in upstate New York in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. If you like working with children and being in the outdoors, this job could be for you!
Job Description:
As a wilderness counselor, you will be a part of a program at camp that is exclusively for the oldest campers (14-16 yo). This program is unlike no other. Wilderness participates in three trips over the summer; bike, hike and canoe. Each trip lasts for five days and you are out of camp and camping overnight for the duration of each trip. As a counselor, you will work with your co-counselors and Unit Leader to ensure the safety of every camper during the trips as well as maintaining equiptment and managing the transportation of such equiptment.
To be a wilderness counselor you need; to love the outdoors, to love camping and being in the "wilderness", to love working with kids (Wilderness is a transformative experience for every camper and staff member, it truly is a magical thing) and to have basic skills such as being able to ride a bike, swimming at a level that will allow you to pass a lifeguarding certification and being able to lift and carry things such as bikes and canoes.
As a counselor, you will be living with and looking after campers out of activity periods. This includes; waking them up, getting them ready for the day, attending meals as a bunk and coordinating with co-counselors to ensure a safe environment in the cabin.

Please note: You must be willing to being at Camp Chateaugay in Upstate NY from June 16th 2023 - August 16th 2023.
Staff Training Starts: June 16th 2023
End of camp & Staff leave: August 16th 2023.

Salary: From $1,100.00 per month
