Yard Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The Shredder Yard Manager is responsible for implementing best practices and developing processes across the facility. The key fundamentals of this role include formulating strategy, improving performance, managing resources, and ensuring compliance by oversight of the safe handling, shredding, shearing, bailing, sorting, and torching of unprocessed scrap on a production basis. Oversees scale operation and office procedures for the Scrap Processing facility. Safety audits will be constantly conducted.

This is a leadership role that will mentor team members and increase customer service. The successful candidate will possess a depth of experience that helps excel in the areas of compliance, efficiency, and profitability in a cross-functional approach to business growth.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

  • Manage all day-to-day operations of assigned yard including employee relations, customer relations, and achieving operational goals
  • Implement new directives for growth Build effective relationships with upper management, and support team members
  • Serve as liaison between the upper management and the field
  • Achieve revenue goals by effectively leading team members, and productivity
  • Ensure successful execution of operational standards, in compliance with state, federal, and established company policies and procedures
  • Maintain oversight of overall facility and team member hours daily and weekly in order to make effective staffing recommendations
  • Monitor production KPIs
  • Analyze, train, and supervise team members for optimal performance and efficiency
  • Oversee and assist in management of lean inventory of all needed parts and supplies to minimize downtime
  • Improve operational management systems, processes, and best practices
  • Lead strategic financial and operational objectives to improve profitability of the yard
  • Open/Close yard per company policy
  • Assist in establishing maintenance, production, safety, and quality cost goals.
  • Responsible for initiating, writing, training, and auditing personnel on procedures for the scrap area.
  • Responsible for oversight of scheduling personnel, work hours reported by the people, and documentation of any oral or written disciplinary action required.
  • Assist in establishing standard scrap processing practices for control of production methods, quality, labor and cost for the facility.
  • Responsible for oversight of the scrap inspection process.
  • Responsible for compliance with all federal and state regulations relative to environmental BMP’s
  • Requisition operating parts and supplies to ensure availability of the proper quantity and quality when needed. (Possibly remove, already stated above)
  • Responsible for oversight of the safety of employees and for effectively administering safety programs.
  • Responsible for oversight of departmental housekeeping.
  • Responsible for oversight of supervising personnel effectively to minimize turnover.
  • Responsible for administering corporate and departmental personnel policies and programs.
  • Responsible for actively supporting and participating in all operational team building efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President and General Manager.

Requirements:

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Proven work experience in a similar role in the recycling industry
  • Knowledge of the ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • Hands on mechanical-heavy equipment skills
  • Knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management
  • Ability to inspire, influence, and coach teams to success
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in difficult and stressful situations
  • A comprehensive understanding of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, PLC's and large motor subsystems.
  • Bi-lingual (English & Spanish)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 Years of Leadership or Management Experience
  • 5 Years in shredder operations and maintenance or equivalent of both
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred
  • Heavy Equipment Experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 25 pounds
  • Frequently climb up and down ladders; crouch and bend at the knee; stoop or bend at the waist; reach arms overhead; and twist and turn at the neck and trunk
  • Continually handle and grasp levers and dials; continuous leg and foot motion when using pedals
  • Work environment involves frequent and/or regular exposure to natural and unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazards materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises
  • Ability to spend prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer
