YOUTH DIRECTOR

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Youth Director (YD) is responsible to oversee, manage and develop the church’s programs for our youth through our parish’s local chapters of the Diocese’s Armenian Church Youth Organization of America for Juniors (ACYOA Juniors) and Seniors (ACYOA Seniors). The YD will be under the direct supervision of and report directly to the Pastor; work in close cooperation with the Parish Council (PC) and church staff. This is a part-time position (20-25 hours per week).

Primary Goals and Objectives

Consistent with the objectives of the ACYOA, the YD shall:

• Encourage its members to learn, practice, uphold, and propagate the principles and teachings of the Christian faith according to the doctrine, sacraments, rites, canons, discipline, and customs of the Armenian Church.
• Support and work for the strengthening of the Armenian Church to promote among its members and others the study and appreciation of Armenian culture and heritage.
• Strengthen the social and spiritual bond among its members, and to contribute toward the development of a healthy community life among Armenians.
• To enhance and strengthen among its members loyalty to the principles of the Constitution of the United States; to uphold the spirit of human freedom, universal justice, and devotion to duty as good citizens.

Principal Responsibilities

In carrying out the primary goals and objectives, the YD shall:

• Establish a regular monthly meeting schedule for full group meetings.
• Establish a regular monthly meeting schedule for Executive Committee meetings.
• Oversee elections of the officers of the Executive Committee.
• Attend all meetings - full group as well as Executive Committee.
• Ensure the groups operate in keeping with (a) the Constitution of the ACYOA, as approved by the Diocese, (b) the Bylaws of both the Diocese and of the Armenian Church of the Holy Martyrs, (c) the ACYOA Handbook.
• Encourage participation and sponsorship of community service activities, in service to our parish and parishioners, our Armenian community, our local community, and local community agencies
• Work with the chapter members in developing active social and educational programs and spiritual and community service activities.
• Ensure members are aware of, and encourage participation in, Inter-Chapter activities of local churches, as well as activities and programs sponsored by the ACYOA Central Council.
• Oversee the financial activities of each group, especially the ACYOA Juniors who are likely to be of minor age.
• Maintain a 12-month calendar of all ACYOA (Juniors and Seniors) activities.
• Attend ACYOA Sports weekends.
• Collaborate with the Pastor and the PC in making ACHM a welcoming place for youth and their families.
• Be part of the worshipping community of ACHM on a regular basis.

Specific minimum requirements

• College graduate or equivalent (concentration: Theology, Education, Social Work, Child Development, Psychology or related field preferred).
• Minimum of 2 years youth/young adult ministry.
• Motivated individual with strong initiative.
• Individual who will effectively serve as a mentor, leader, and role model for our youth.
• Ability to work independently.
• Must have strong writing, verbal communication, organizational, conflict-management, and time-management skills.
• Must be good at learning new programs. Must demonstrate strong working knowledge of computers and proficiency in software programs, including MS office applications, Adobe Acrobat, use of Internet, Facebook, Instagram, social media.
• Must have respectable social media presence.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Must be able to receive contsructive criticism and willing to be flexible to fit the needs of the ministry.
