The registrar is a member of the animal care team. The registrar is responsible for managing animal records, validating the quality of recorded data, and ensuring the legal compliance of animal transfers. The registrar often serves as the liaison between local, federal and international agencies and other zoological facilities. The registrar is responsible for all permitting processes. The registrar is responsible for training and advising selected staff in ZIMS and other record-keeping processes.

Maintain Animal Records and Permits
Manages and maintains both active and inactive animal records ensuring accuracy, quality and accessibility
Manages animal records to meet AZA accreditation standards
Ensures that all required federal, state and local animal permits are submitted and kept current
Interfaces with the veterinary department to assist them in meeting their goals
Provides census information as necessary
Ensures animal record entries are timely completed
Annually completes an animal inventory report
Provides institutional data in a timely manner to studbook requests, reports, questionnaires, and surveys to assist in the long-term management of animal programs

Coordinate Animal Transfers
coordinates with and participates in, when possible, animal transfers with staff
Establishes and implements animal transactions
Ensures compliance with regulations governing animal transfers including IATA regulations and all local, state, federal and international laws
Maintains acquisition and disposition records

Train and Advise Zoo Staff in ZIMS Software
Trains and advises animal care staff in ZIMS animal record-keeping and modules
Regularly works with animal care staff and curators to continue improvement of records and solve problems
Provides statistical analysis and reports for departments regarding the animal collection
Primary liaison with Species360, AZA Facilities and AZA Associates

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college university in Biology, Zoology, Records Management, and Environmental Resources, Wildlife Management or other related field. General knowledge of taxonomy and animal husbandry. Three years of experience in a related field, database management, experience in animal care at a zoological facility or a combination of experiences which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid Kansas driver’s License without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Out of state driver’s license will be accepted for up to 45 days after hire.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college university in Biology, Ecology, Zoology or a related field. Three years' experience in an AZA Facility managing animal records data. Experiences with Species360/ZIMS or other animal record keeping software.
