Core Technical & Cloud Skills
An ideal candidate will possess proven hands-on experience in both general cloud environments and specific GCP services, along with a strong foundation in scripting and data handling.
Programming & Scripting: Proven skills in Python or other high-level languages are essential for creating security automation, custom tooling, and integrations.
GCP Data Security Services: Critical expertise includes services like Identity and Access Management (IAM) for controlling access, VPC Service Controls to prevent data exfiltration, Cloud DLP for sensitive data classification, Cloud KMS for managing encryption keys, and Secret Manager for credential protection.
General Cloud Experience: A solid background working with major cloud service providers indicates a broader understanding of architectural and security principles.
Security Operations & Automation
A modern data security professional is someone who enhances and automates security functions. The focus is on a forward-looking, proactive mindset and repeatable, well-defined processes.
Monitoring & Detection Maturation: Valuable experience includes advancing security monitoring capabilities—moving beyond basic alerts to sophisticated threat detection using tools like Security Command Center, Cloud Logging, and Cloud Monitoring.
Process Documentation (SOPs): The ability to write excellent Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is crucial. Clear documentation ensures consistent security responses, provides a baseline for automation, simplifies audits, and enables the scaling of operations across the team.
Automation & Metrics: A key attribute is the ability to automate manual security processes. It is especially beneficial if the candidate has experience presenting metrics that demonstrate the resulting productivity and efficiency gains.
Strategic & Enterprise Experience
Team members should possess the strategic vision to design and implement robust security solutions that function effectively within a large, complex organization.
Enterprise Solution Design: Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing data security solutions for large-scale enterprise environments showcases an understanding of the unique challenges of complexity and scale.
Legal & Compliance Knowledge: A strong knowledge of cybersecurity laws, regulations (like GDPR, CCPA), best practices, and data security frameworks (like NIST, ISO 27001) is a fundamental requirement for operating responsibly.
