Job Description

A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities and providing data to government agencies along the U.S. coastline. AIS is seeking a temporary, full-time Forestry Technician to support Washington’s Department of Natural Resources Silviculture program. The position is contingent upon AIS being awarded the contract. Primary Function The Forestry Technician will safely travel to and locate harvest units that need to be sampled in the Western Washington area (Bellingham, WA to Mineral, WA). The technician will set center stakes, flag each plot across 800 acres, and sample seedling plots on a determined schedule based on local district tree planting effort. Tree seedlings within the plots will be identified, assessed for damage, measured, and tallied within 14 days of replanting. All data will be recorded and submitted via provided software and tablets. Duties / Responsibilities Travel safely to remote forest roads and previously forested areas. Locate, flag, and stake seedling plots in reforested areas. Measure, assess for damage, tally, and identify tree seedlings. Utilize tablets and software to record and submit data. Compensation Hourly rate to be negotiated based on experience. This is a full‑time, temporary position. AIS offers a benefits package including health and dental insurance, vacation, sick, and holiday benefits. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Biology, or related natural science. Experience identifying tree seedlings and collecting data in the field. Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle. Ability to work in inclement weather and navigate through wooded terrain. Proficiency with MS Excel and Word. Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility and adaptability to work on short notice. Preferred Qualifications Experience collecting tree seedling data. Travel Expected to travel up to 100% of the time visiting forestry harvest units in the Western Washington area (Bellingham, WA to Mineral, WA). Primary location: Greater Seattle area.
