About Target:

Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. We bring that vision to life through our values and culture. Learn more about Target here.

Target’s Global UX team is a group of design, content, research, and accessibility practitioners and experts, with a passion for improving and innovating our digital experiences for Target’s guests, team members, and partners. Here, we pride ourselves on designing tangible, inspiring, and impactful solutions that serve all aspects of our business– and being a part of the team means you will play a critical role for Target’s digital experience by increasing ease, simplicity, value, and delight for every touchpoint.

About the role:

As a Senior Content Designer within our Operational Communications team, you’ll be at the forefront of Target’s evolving digital experience, shaping it for our guests and contributing to business growth. In this role, you will develop guest-facing email and push communications that are clear, compelling, and on-brand. You’ll dig into what makes an effective outbound message and how it fits into the larger user journey on behalf of both the guest’s desires and the business’s needs.

You’ll be embedded in a user experience team, working alongside product designers, product managers, business partners, researchers, and developers to deliver best-in-class UI, but you’ll also have the support of the content design team to compare notes on writing, language, and how content comes to life across the organization. You’ll be empowered to not only create clear and engaging content for existing experiences, but to envision entirely new experiences and proactively seek out ways that content can bring joy and ease into the lives of our guests.

As a member of the team, you will contribute to advancing the broader practice of UX at Target through influence, impact, and craft, while also educating cross-functional teams when needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Write content and develop content recommendations for guest-facing experiences, synthesizing Target’s tone and voice, guest needs, business requirements, and principles of UX.
  • Track the end-to-end communication flow and proactively reach out to partners to ensure consistency and cohesion.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, product owners, researchers, accessibility consultants, data analysts, software engineers, and your fellow content designers.
  • Advocate for guest communication needs and priorities.
  • Conduct basic user experience research with the guidance of the UX research team. Collaborate with researchers to identify larger research needs and gaps in understanding of our guest’s behaviors and desires.
  • Learn from business data and guest insights to help inform your content.
  • Participate in critiques, workshops, and skill-development opportunities.
  • Be part of a rapidly growing culture and team committed to fostering belonging, accessibility, and authenticity for all Target guests.
  • Contribute to a culture of human-centered practice within UX, product, and engineering teams
  • Navigate complexity and ambiguity delivering impact for guests and the business

About you:

  • 4+ years of content design and/or UX writing experience.
  • A portfolio that showcases your passion for language and commitment to UX principles.
  • Ability to present and defend the strategy and choices behind your work.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in ambiguous environments.
  • Ability to hear feedback, defend your decisions when necessary but also adjust your approach to the language or problem when necessary.
  • Interest in learning more about the intersection of language and design in user experience, and curiosity about how new technologies can help be a catalyst in our systems and ways of working.
  • You value outcomes and strive toward design that is welcoming, inspiring, and clear.
  • You understand how design connects to, serves, and improves business outcomes.
  • Proficiency in product design and prototyping tools (i.e., Figma)
  • Exhibit a growth mindset
