Internship Program Overview: Our 2025 Summer Internship Program is a paid 10-12-week internship program, scheduled to begin on June 2, 2025. Interns are expected to work full-time throughout the summer.

Summer interns will join an intern class consisting of undergraduate and graduate students to work on exciting projects in one of EDC's many dynamic departments. Summer Interns will also participate in training programs, networking events, and other professional development opportunities over the course of the program.

Our Summer 2025 Internship Program application deadline is Monday, December 2. All materials must be submitted by EOD that date – incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Department Overview: The Asset Management (AM) Division is at the forefront of managing NYC's largest and most diverse portfolio of real estate and transportation assets. The AM Division is responsible for the linking policy goals with full life-cycle management of its broad portfolio, including retail spaces, commercial buildings, industrial sites, ports, public markets, theaters, and major campuses through capital planning, design and construction, asset and facilities management, and enterprise operations. The division is at the forefront of shaping New York City's infrastructure and regional economic landscape.

The  Property Operations department is responsible for protecting and enhancing the value of City-owned real estate assets and to serve the operational needs of tenant businesses. In addition, the Department collects lease and fee income revenue for EDC and assists EDC in the allocation of resources among its properties.

The Intern will gain hands-on experience in supporting operational efficiency and property upkeep as we prepare for the opening of our new MADE Campus: Bush Terminal.

Intern Responsibilities:

• Facilities Maintenance Coordination:
  • Assist in scheduling and coordinating regular maintenance and inspections for all property facilities.
  • Document maintenance requests and work orders from tenants, tracking their status and ensuring timely resolution.
  • Shadow operations staff to learn about effective troubleshooting and repair practices.
• Preventive Maintenance and Operational Support:
  • Support the development of preventive maintenance plans for critical systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) to enhance property longevity.
  • Conduct routine inspections of common areas and systems, identifying potential issues and reporting findings to the property manager.
• Inventory and Supplies Management:
  • Assist in managing inventory for maintenance supplies and equipment, ensuring that all necessary materials are stocked and easily accessible.
  • Help coordinate orders with suppliers and track delivery schedules to maintain operational continuity.
• Operational Efficiency Projects:
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at improving operational workflows, such as streamlining maintenance request processes or enhancing communication between teams.
  • Analyze existing operations to identify areas for improvement and assist in implementing recommended changes.
• Safety and Compliance Oversight:
  • Support monitoring safety protocols and compliance with local regulations related to property maintenance and tenant safety.
  • Assist in conducting safety audits and maintaining documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Preferred field(s) of study: Operations Management, Facilities Management, Property Management, or a related field.
• Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of NYCEDC
• Demonstrated written, verbal, and analytical skills
• Demonstrated experience in using database and presentation tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage deadlines
• Ability to work in collaborative, cross-functional teams
• Ability to work full-time, Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM and complete the entirety of the 10-week program

Salary Target: $19.00/hour (undergraduate-level students); $24.00/hour (graduate-level students)
