2 attorneys + 2 kiddos = need for an incredible nanny Job at My Girl Friday, LLC

My Girl Friday, LLC Raleigh, NC

  • We’re hoping MGF can put a fun spin on our lives because what it boils down to is that we are a pair of tired, working parents that need a little help… and we feel like that is the opposite of glamorous. Our sons (7.5 and 3.5 years old) are at the best age for chilling, traveling, and connecting. We adore our sweet offspring, but their school day isn’t quite long enough for us to put in our hours at work AND pick them up and tote them all over the planet to their activities. Anywho- that’s where you come in. Great news! We have worked with a few nannies and sitters over the years, so we are well-versed in the nanny life. We have adored the humans that have helped us care for our children and our littles have loved each and every one of their caregivers. This said, we are super stoked to meet and love YOU!
  • We’re the after school position of your dreams! Our core hours are 2:45p-5:00p Monday through Friday and we are happy to offer until 5:30p. Our kids go to two different schools but don’t worry, their pickup times are staggered! Our youngest is picked up from his Montessori school around 2:45-3p and his older brother’s school is about 15 minutes away. We can guarantee at least 12 hours per week and up to 18 hours if you’d be willing to help us out with a weekly date night (we’re flexible on the weekday!). (We can provide a lot more hours during the summer if that works for you.) Our ideal situation is that you would be able to occasionally work full days (9-5) if a kiddo is out of school for a teacher work day but if that doesn’t work for your schedule, it’s not a deal breaker! In the summer, if you need to keep the same schedule, we are game– but our ideal caregiver would be interested in working around 25 hours (12p-5p) or more per week during those warmer, school-less months.
  • We are grad school sweethearts! With our careers aligned (we are both lawyers) and our mutual love of food and being outdoors, and our active lifestyles, we hit it off right away! Mom is a Raleigh native while Dad grew up in Florida. Following law school, we spent several years in San Francisco chasing our dreams, pursuing the area's culinary delights, and fully enjoying the lifestyle that comes with living there. Our oldest was born on the West Coast and while we love the area, the Triangle was calling us back home– especially since we wanted to raise our children closer to our families. These days we identify as parents first and foremost. We spend our weekday evenings together and have a standing Friday night movie/pizza family date every week. We spend our weekends on the greenways, exploring the art museum, visiting Umstead Park, and marveling at the amazing produce at the Farmer’s Market. The kids were so inspired by the Farmer’s Market that we started our own container garden. From spring to summer, we jump in the car and spend as many weekends as possible at the beach, we all feel restored by the salty breeze! We have an amazing neighborhood filled with children. The design allows children multiple safe areas to explore and play. We live in between two parks (within walking distance) and we have a neighborhood pool that the kids are happy to live in during the summer (unless we are at the beach!).
  • Our home is filled with brotherly love with a small side of sibling rivalry. Our oldest is the more reserved of our two. He is kind, mature (beyond his years), verbal, and quick-witted. He’s a blast to have a conversation with… that is, if his brother decides to take a breath (he will talk to a wall!). He’s passionate about Legos and he’s a chess aficionado. If you play chess, that is a huge bonus, but he’ll be happy to teach you if you want to learn. An excellent imagination and an avid reader, he plays out scenarios with everything from toys and legos to couch cushions. When he wants to unwind, it’s not uncommon for him to snuggle up with a book in his room for hours on end. On the other hand, when his brother needs to blow off steam, the best place for him is outdoors. Our youngest is tuned into what his body needs and will tell you that he needs to get some energy out. In addition to his love of sharing his ideas and thoughts, he enjoys music and singing, and will make up songs to delight his audience. He’s a hugger and always has a smile on his face.
  • Both of our kiddos have had Montessori experiences and a “follow the child” upbringing. As parents, we are passionate about personal responsibility, fostering independence, and child-led learning. We set expectations about how our children are interacting with others and they know our expectations around manners and being kind to others. We want the children to put on their own shoes, hang up their coats, unpack their backpacks, put away their clothes, and help the adults around the house. We know, we know… sometimes it’s easier/faster just to do it ourselves, but we plan for the extra time. We know the time we are putting in now will mean they will be more independent and responsible later. It’s an investment of love. As our kids' schedule permits, we are looking for a caregiver who wants to get out in the world and explore when the kids are out of school. Museums, parks, creeks, farms… you name it, we are excited to see what you and the kids cook up. Speaking of cooking, the kids would be happy to cook/bake with you (cooking is not a requirement of the job!) and they are happy to dive into an art project. All we ask is that you and the kids clean up after your endeavors.
  • Our expectations in terms of the household are minimal and kid-related. First and foremost, your biggest responsibility will be transporting the kiddos (we will most definitely reimburse you for mileage!). Driving safety and reliability is paramount. Other tasks may include snack prep (or simple dinner prep on date nights), occasional homework help, and tidying up after yourself and the kids. We would love for you to encourage our boys to stay organized, especially in the post-school rush where they need a little wrangling and redirecting of energy. Before they run outside to play, make sure they empty their lunch boxes and put them away. Our oldest plays the violin so finding some time for him to practice each week is also helpful. We want to be completely transparent and say that we’re a little type-A and keep a very tidy home. We don’t expect you to deep clean or reorganize by any means, we just ask that you maintain the cleanliness we have in place! For example, if you and the kids are working on a massive art project, make sure everything is cleaned and put away before you leave for the day. We’re totally supportive of the fact that engaging school-aged kids may mean making some messes, we just want to work to maintain the balance of fun -AND- tidy!
  • All members of our house are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and up-to-date on our flu shots. We require you to be in the same boat. Our children are in school unmasked and we are resuming indoor activities and gatherings for the most part. We ask for common sense when it comes to navigating the world (maybe avoid nightly body-to-body concerts), but other than that we trust you to live your life as you see fit as long as you’re vaccinated. We also ask that you please be communicative about feeling sick or any potential exposures you may have!
  • We don’t have pets or any plans to get any… for now. However, we are considering getting a dog in a year or two. It is HIGHLY up for debate in our household so… don’t bring it up in front of the kids– please and thank you!
  • We’re offering $23-26/hr, PTO, mornings free to do as you please, complimentary chess lessons, and two parents who will love you forever for making our lives complete.
