JOB TITLE: Work-Based Learning Coordinator

LOCATION: Thomas C. Randle Career & Technical Center

SALARY: Teacher Salary Schedule (Funding Source: Vocational 2711)

WORK DAYS: 187 Days – 10 Month Employee

REPORTS TO: Director/Principal

FLSA STATUS: Exempt


POSITION OVERVIEW

To implement and direct the career and technical comprehensive work-based learning program.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the center director/principal, district coordinator, and postsecondary representatives in defining needs, developing plans, establishing goals, and formulating policies and procedures for program development.
  • Recruit new businesses and organizations to provide quality work-based and school-based learning opportunities for students; serve as the liaison between the center and business and industry.
  • Maintain lists of businesses/industries willing to participate in work-based learning.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and other documents; enter all WBL opportunities into PowerSchool at the end of each semester. Assist home high schools with these procedures as applicable.
  • Assist in screening, interviewing, and selecting qualified students for work-based learning experiences.
  • Coordinate Cooperative Education, Internships, Job Shadowing, Service Learning, and other Work-Based Learning programs offered through the Technology Center that relate to worksite learning.
  • Contact business and industry in regard to their employment and training needs and to encourage partnerships with our center.
  • Disseminate information on Work-Based Learning programs to employers, parents, teachers, students, and counselors.
  • Assist with curriculum development and integration of technical and academic education.
  • Assist with career development of students through career clusters, extended learning opportunities, and employability skills.
  • Attend various meetings of school personnel and employers.
  • Prepare, review, and edit written materials as needed for correspondence, brochures, and agendas.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and materials to support the Work-Based Learning program.
  • Maintain professional development by participating in national and state organizations/associations, and attending conferences related to work-based learning.
  • Host a Fall and/or Spring “Industry Fair” at the center which allows local industry to come and meet with CTE students.
  • Maintain a current Advisory Committee listing (updated yearly) which includes contact information. Supervise and coordinate Advisory Committee meetings. Keep on file records of such meetings. Assist teachers with their Program Advisory Committees as needed.
  • Work with instructors to provide instruction in employability skills, Resume writing and interviewing skills.
  • Handle Public Relations for the center in coordination with the administration.
  • Other duties as assigned by the director.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:


Skills:


  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to coordinate, design, structure, and integrate school-based and work-based instruction;
  • Ability to develop, supervise, and complete projects;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability and/or experience to network and collaborate at all levels; and,
  • Use of computer software used for work production, student management and communication.


Coordinating Functions:


  • Serve as a liaison between the school districts, Technology Center, high schools, and employers
  • Coordinate connecting activities between school-based and work-based learning
  • Coordinate the development of school-based and work-based competencies


INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS


  • Internal- advise, consult, and coordinate with students, instructors, and staff and be available to attend school functions and meetings.
  • External- work with employers, educators, government representatives, and other community leaders in the development of project and programs.
  • State and National- participate in state and national organizations/associations and attend conferences related to work-based learning and professional development.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Mississippi Educator Certification in occupational or academic subject
  • Three years of work experience required
  • Demonstrate proficiency using current productivity software.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Knowledge of work-based learning initiatives to include career counseling.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or his designee may find appropriate and acceptable.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises students and other activities as directed by the Director.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Mississippi Educator Certificate in Occupational Subject, three years work experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top management, public groups/community, and Board of Education.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, gathers data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
