We have an exciting full time opportunity in our accounting and finance department.

Responsibilities include:


  • Leasing: The position will manage the Leased Vehicle Program which will encompass ordering new passenger vehicles and managing the relationship with Element (the Company’s vehicle management and leasing service). This position will also understand the financing aspect of the Company’s tractor and trailer fleet. This will include obtaining and comparing quotes from various financial institutions to determine the best rates and terms and managing the relationship with Farm Credit Leasing (the Company’s primary leasing lender).
    • This position will review all expenses and approve payments to our Leasing Company. Review the GL and reconcile any discrepancies. This position will act as backup to the Waitsfield Accountant to download invoices from Element’s Xcelerate system.
    • This will also include review and approval of Element maintenance and repair expenses through the Element Xcelerate system.
    • Understand the lease buyout process for the Company’s passenger vehicles and tractor and trailer fleet.
    • This position will be responsible for lease accounting including month-end journal entries and reconciliations.
    • The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) has promulgated new rules for accounting for leases that have been adopted by the Company in 2022. Passenger vehicles and many of the Company’s warehouse leases are structured as operating leases. The Company’s tractor and trailer fleet and several property leases are structured as financing leases. This position will work closely with the Finance Manager to make sure all leases are scheduled with the proper up-to-date durations and payment streams so they can be accounted for correctly under the new Accounting Standard.
  • Insurance: This position is charged with assessing and maintaining the Company’s risk portfolio. This position will assist with the many maintenance items involved including ordering Certificates of Insurance and assist with reporting and monitoring accidents.
  • General understanding of the insurance renewal process and work closely with the Finance Manager on obtaining data for insurance applications and renewal submittals and managing relationships with Insurance Brokers and Carriers.
  • Review and track insurance premiums and analyze insurance prepaid and accruals.
  • Calculate Worker’s Compensation loss expectancy and analyze trends, track to ensure proper accrual.
  • Obtain, review, and maintain Independent Sub-Hauler’s Certificates of Insurance.
  • Assist with financial models and analysis for insurance claims and annual business interruption calculation.

  • Cash Management: The Company balances out its cash position daily. This involves accessing our bank’s system to ascertain the flow of funds through the operating accounts.
    • Reconciliation of banking activity
    • Setting up ACH and wire payments in the bank’s system
    • Assist with cash flow forecasting, reporting and operational metrics and assist with annual budgeting process.
  • Perform annual IRS personal use of company leased vehicles calculation by gathering mileage data from Certify and driver estimates.
  • Ad hoc accounting as directed by the Finance Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Knowledge of financial systems, general accounting concepts and general ledger functions.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Excel and other MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint) required. Expertise in Excel formulas / functions and building analytical models.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, including leveraging analytics to generate insights and recommendations for solutions.
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or MS in Accounting or similar field of study.
  • Familiarity with commodities and commodity markets a plus.
  • Familiarity with data query / data management tools extremely helpful (Access, SQL, Business Objects).
