Accountant Senior (Remote Hybrid) Job at RWJBarnabas Health

Remote - Hybrid: 2-3 days a week in the office, depending on work requirements.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Senior Accountant includes:

  • Maintains ledger accounts, creates monthly journal entries and prepares monthly and daily reconciliation. Completes and enters data accurately on a monthly basis:
    • Strong understanding of the relationship between income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements.
    • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
    • Compile/attach appropriate supporting documentation for journal entries.
    • Entries entered timely in general ledger.
    • Ensures accuracy of account balances.
    • Use online research and review of original record sources to evaluate appropriateness of account balance.
    • Maintains accurate detail in support of the balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other documents that project the organization's financial position.
    • Uses sound statistical methods to recognize and ensure accuracy.
    • Provides completed account analysis and reconciliation of cash on a daily basis and investigates to management for review any discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Assists in AP functions. Routinely review vendor statements for accurate recording of outstanding balances. Identify and research reasons for potential delays in payment or other issues.
  • Prepares and/or reviews assigned areas of annual budget, including capital budget, portions of operating budget, analysis of the budget, and the budget package in accordance with due dates.
  • Written and verbal communication is done in a manner that is clear, concise, timely, and accurately conveys the message.
    • Language and content should be grammatically correct, and presented in a way that it easily understood.
  • Ensures that all reports generated provide meaningful and timely information.
    • Provides answers in a timely, accurate, and thorough responses to the inquiries.
  • Interacts with internal and external auditors as necessary.
    • All audit work papers are completed and analyzed within appropriate time frames to allow for effective and efficient audits.
  • Identifies accounting problems and internal control weaknesses, researches possible solutions and presents recommendations and conclusions to Management for further evaluation.
  • Works independently, with broadly defined work objectives, with limited supervision and review of the overall result.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • A minimum of 4 or more years of accounting experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Prior hospital or healthcare experience a plus
  • Prior experience with PeopleSoft Financial and budget software.

Hours:

  • Monday-Friday: 8:30am - 5:30pm
