Interested in joining our team of dedicated professionals? Way Finders is currently seeking a full-time Accounting Clerk. Our Accounting Clerk furthers our mission by providing accounting support to our Assistant Controller, and the Fiscal team.

The candidate will work in a hybrid-remote capacity but must live within commutable distance to the main office in Springfield, MA. In-office work and in-person meetings are expected weekly.

Responsibilities include:
  • Prepare and post rental property journal entries and other activity into the general ledger (GL) in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure the GL is in balance with database subsidiary records; review and report discrepancies as needed
  • Complete monthly and year-end closings in a timely manner, including the preparation of accurate financial statements and reports
  • Act as a primary back-up for check requests
  • Assist and support the department through proactive cross-training and the application of developed accounting skills
  • Collaborate to ensure rental property invoices are entered according to procedure; prepare and issue payments for invoices in the GL
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with staff (including across departments) to achieve goals
  • Proactively identify and inform the Assistant Controller of any significant issues that may adversely affect the organization
  • Remain current on general accounting principles
Requirements include:
  • Two years’ equivalent experience in an accounting-based role, or a related role; a combination of experience and an Associate degree may be a substitute
  • Preference for experience to be in a nonprofit setting
  • Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel), and comfort learning new technologies
  • Working knowledge of automated accounting systems and database management, including administration and the ability to generate reports
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills across all levels of an organization, with the ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to assess priorities, organize, and operate in a flexible manner while retaining a high level of attention-to-detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, with the capacity to communicate effectively with diverse individuals
