The Accounts Receivable Specialist - Phsician Billing is responsible for a variety of duties as assigned by AR Manager/Director for Healogics Specialty Physicians provider billing. Duties include claim errors, edits, and rejections, payment posting and unpaid and denied claim problem solving and resolution for federal health care program, commercial, and other types of insurance carriers and self-pay patient accounts. Special projects may also be assigned as needed.

All Healogics employees must perform their job responsibilities according to all Healogics policies, Hospital policies, as well as to accrediting organizations, federal and state regulation, and to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines, as applicable.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM, No Weekends and No Holidays! Hybrid Schedule - 1 Day in Office.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain daily productivity in accordance with performance standards of over 50 claims per day when working unpaid and denied claims; 75 per day when working front-end edits, errors, and rejections.
  • Resolve discrepancies in patient accounts.
  • Maintain detailed electronic and paper records and documentation as required.
  • Verify self-pay accounts for insurance coverage.
  • Address claims denials and or rejections timely and consistently based on current policies.
  • Resolve charity accounts based on current policies and guidelines.
  • Work directly with outside agencies to include insurance carriers.
  • Use available tools such as i-heal, clearinghouse portals, payer portals, and other to solve claim issues.
  • Coordinate with Healogics Provider enrollment and field contacts to resolve claim issues.
  • Operate software system for billing, posting, and claims research/follow-up.
  • Identify claim issues at the patient account level. Seek corrective action and solutions that prevent reoccurrence. Escalate to AR Manager/Director, as needed.
  • Identify trends and advise AR Manager/Director of the issues related.
  • Performs other accounting and related tasks as assigned.
  • Assist with inbound and outbound patient customer service calls.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience and Credentials:

  • High school diploma and a minimum of 2-5 years of Billing Office experience. Associates Degree preferred or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills or abilities can be acquired.
  • Accountable for day-to-day operations of making sure that all assigned tasks are completed in a timely manner; in addition to maintaining the goals and objectives of the accounting department and organization.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The ability to work independently.
  • The ability to work collaboratively on projects.
  • The ability to create channels of communication to obtain information necessary to perform job tasks, such as payers, clinical staff, collection agencies and billing department staff.
  • The ability to recognize individual and system problems and to communicate them to the Business Manager.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Access software, internet and web-based database programs.
Salary for this position generally ranges between $17-$21/hour. This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications: education, experience, geography as well as operational needs and other considerations permitted by law.
