General Summary: In collaboration and under the supervision of the Chicago Area Life Care Coordinator, the After Hours Specialist provides after hours supportive services for Sisters residing at Mercy Circle. This position requires that the After Hours Specialist is able to be available after hours, 6pm– 6am must be flexible on the hours, to respond to Sisters who have healthcare issues requiring them to be transported and/or met at local area hospitals, emergency room, and/or urgent care center. The After Hours Per Diem position is generally scheduled for a minimum of one week (seven days) at a time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible to be available after hours, as scheduled, to support and accompany Sisters who have urgent and/or emergent healthcare needs.
  • Must be within 30- minute drive to Mercy Circle.
  • Responds to calls and able to meet/accompany Sister.
  • Assists the Sister in communicating with medical personnel and documenting information provided by medical staff.
  • Communicates and coordinates consistently with Life Care Coordinator per procedure.
  • Provides transport, if needed and assists Sisters, as needed in and out of vehicle, ensuring that the Sisters are safely positioned and that seat belts are fastened.
  • Ensures that vehicle is neat, clean, fueled, and in good working condition.
  • Maintains log of service and mileage log on a daily basis.
  • Notifies the Life Care Coordinator immediately of any concerns related to a Sister’s status and needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Competencies and Experience

  • High School diploma.
  • Some college course work preferred.
  • Has care giving experience, formally or informally.
  • Has working relationship and/or understanding of the Sisters of Mercy in the Chicago area.
  • Has experience communicating with healthcare providers.
  • Able to clearly document or receive documentation related to the Sister’s healthcare status and treatment.
  • Able to push and navigate a wheelchair long distances.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current Illinois Driver’s License without significant moving violations. Driving assessment is required to determine eligibility for position.

Working Conditions:

When driving this position does involve exposure to all types of weather conditions and various environments. All vehicles are to remain smoke free at all times.

Visual/Audible Acuity Requirements

  • Must be able to read and distinguish small print.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures, and manuals.
  • Must have depth perception and be able to distinguish basic colors.
  • Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and make self-understood while also understanding others using the English language.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

MUST SHOW PROOF OF BEING FULLY VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19.

The hours of on call are 6pm - 6am, must be flexible with the hours.

$25.00 per night Mon-Fri; $50.00 for Weekends and Holidays just to take call.

If called out, the pay is $20.00/hr.
