About our Company:

Tucked just between Zilker Park and Downtown Austin, Carpenter Hotel evokes an easy time in Austin full of fresh air, Texas sunshine, and days spent lazing by the water with a book. A bridge between the city and the outdoors, each part of the property nods to its native surroundings and its rich history. The lobby, restaurant Carpenters Hall, and coffee shop are built in the former Carpenters Local 1266 Union Hall, built in 1948. The hotel features a pool, large pavilion, and 93-rooms, each with a private terrace. While the original meeting hall has been reimagined as our front desk, cafe, and restaurant, and it and the hotel itself are still a place for folks to meet up—to share space and community.

We're looking for:

Carpenter Hotel is looking for a AM Guest Relations who will observant, proactive, and acts as Hotel ambassadors to ensure all guests enjoy their stay.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 1-2 years’ experience in hospitality or security preferred
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
  • High level of customer service
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in the primary language(s) of the workplace

Job Requirements:

  • Make property rounds every fifteen minutes, patrolling Hotel and accompanying property
  • Check doors of vacant rooms, housekeeping, maintenance, and all Back of House doors to confirm they’re locked/secured
  • Proactively engage disruptive guests, with a focus on de-escalation and positive guest engagement
  • Explain and enforce Hotel policies in rooms, pool area, and common areas
  • Communicate with front desk to maintain full picture of activity around property
  • Alert Housekeeping of any trash or disarray that needs attention
  • Monitor property and adjacent community for suspicious activity and graffiti
  • Write shift report and/or update shift log, communicating any problems or issues and their solutions to Hotel leadership and subsequent security and Front Desk shifts
  • Ensure open lines of communication with staff, all departments and upper management at all times via email, logbooks, meetings, etc., to ensure all needs of the hotel are met
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained in good, safe working condition
  • Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the property
  • Maintain complete awareness of:
    • Scheduled group activities and house count
    • Hotel facilities and services
    • Hours of operation
    • Facility layout
    • Fire and emergency plans
    • Department rules of conduct
  • Provide escorts for employees in accordance with departmental standards
  • Ensure that after-hours access into secured hotel areas are properly authorized, monitored and documented in accordance with hotel standards
  • Handle deliveries received during following hotel procedures
  • Work with outside agencies (i.e., police, fire department, and emergency services) cooperatively and follow established hotel regulations
  • Coordinate emergency situations as specified in departmental manual
  • Monitor surveillance cameras
  • Investigate all alarms and comply with respective procedures
  • Challenge suspicious persons on hotel property in accordance with departmental procedures
  • Comply with state regulations and hotel guidelines for handling intoxicated guests
  • Maintain confidentiality of all incidents and hotel reports/documents; release information only to authorized individuals.
  • Answer the departmental telephone within 2 rings, using proper salutations and telephone etiquette
  • Complete all paperwork and closing duties before leaving
  • Review hotel status and any follow-up actions with on-coming Guest Relations Agent
  • Uphold all hotel policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook
  • Observe and report any and all actions, incidents, events and behaviors to Front Office Manager on Duty
  • Promote positive relations with guests and employees alike
  • Accommodate all guest requests courteously

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.

Working Conditions/Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, typical of a hotel/restaurant/office setting
  • The person in this position may have to lift/carry up to fifty (50) pounds on a daily basis; anything over fifty (50) pounds is considered a minimum two (2) person lift
  • The person having this position may have to remain stationary for one (1) hour, move about/traverse property spaces, push, kneel, bend, balance, squat, reach and stretch for up to eight (8) hours per day
