FROZEN FOODS PLANT IN PROSPERITY SOUTH CAROLINA NEEDS AN AMMONIA REFRIGERATION TECHNICIAN ON 3RD SHIFT. 6PM-6AM ON A 3,2,2,3 SCHEDULE. UP TO 39HR AND RELO ASSISTANCE OR SIGN ON BONUS IS AVAILABLE AS WELL.


1.50 nights differentials for hours worked between 6 pm to 6 am.

The Ammonia Technician position is responsible for conducting the safe operation, daily monitoring and maintenance of the plant utilities equipment including but not limited to: An ammonia refrigeration system, boilers, water treatment systems, cooling towers and pumps, NH3 and compressed air compressors, HVAC systems, air dryers, CO2 storage and distribution equipment, freezers, rapid roll-up doors, hot water generating equipment, potable and non-potable water systems, sanitary and storm water systems, chillers and distribution systems, structural upkeep of the building including roof. This position requires frequent interaction with various employees in the maintenance department as well as employees from other departments. This position provides assistance to the Lead and Maintenance Manager to ensure assets are managed in accordance with IIAR, ASHRE, ASME, EPA, OSHA and applicable state and local codes. Ability to demonstrate a high skill level of utility generating equipment listed above with a focus on ammonia (NH3) refrigeration experience and PSM compliance, a mechanical proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing and operating a complete plant system.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Start-up, operate and shut-down the refrigeration system safely and to ensure quality of customer products and energy efficiency.
  • Perform limited electrical work, such as replacement of circuit components; that does not affect the design or integrity of the original circuit. Perform limited repairs to the refrigeration system.
  • Observes and records pressures, temperatures, and electrical readings and adjusts controls to obtain specified operational targets.
  • Inspects all refrigeration system equipment to ensure safe and reliable operations.
  • Lubricates and cleans all refrigeration system equipment and facilities.
  • Experience with Cornell Teikiqu recirculation pumps, HVAC units, boilers, and gas fired heaters is a plus. RETA Certification or equivalent technical training is preferred, as well as prior experience with screw and reciprocating compressors.
  • Must demonstrate strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, as well as have knowledge of electrical and general mechanical systems. Candidate must be willing to acquire Hazmat Certification.
  • Experience with maintenance management software used for logging in time and materials on a daily basis in the form of work orders, P.M.s, etc.
  • Required to interpret and understand plans and specifications, schematics, operating and maintenance manuals, etc. for systems being overseen.
  • Assist in managing outside mechanical and refrigeration contractors conducting service, repair, and new contract work.
  • Building and material handling equipment maintenance teams. Duties will include assisting in general building repairs, electrical troubleshooting and repairs, and other general maintenance activities.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the ammonia system, including equipment, and address any items in need of maintenance. Maintain PSM compliance at all times.
  • Obtain and monitor operation set points, control points, and daily events related to hazardous materials and refrigeration.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education/Certifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in HVACR, Refrigeration/Electrical, Trade School Certification, or equivalent is strongly preferred

Experience:

  • Excellent analytical, communication and mechanical skills.
  • 4-5 years of continual ammonia (NH3) maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrate a high level of troubleshooting, comprehension, and operational experience.
  • Strong experience in process controls and electrical fields.
  • 5-10 years of maintenance experience
  • 2 years direct ammonia (NH3) experience
  • 4 years hands-on refrigeration work
  • Knowledge in electric and general mechanical systems
  • PSM / RMP background
  • Advanced training in refrigeration and controls
  • RETA – Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator (CARO).
  • Ammonia Refrigeration & CFC Certification
  • OSHA Good Manufacturing Process, PSM and RMP
  • Willing to obtain OSHA Level A Hazmat Certification (24Hours, Medical Certification)
  • Willing to obtain OSHA Hazmat, Incident Command Training (8 Hours)
  • Willing to obtain RETA - Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) within 1st year of employment to attain Refrigeration Technician Level III Classifications
  • Ability to work variable shifts, including weekends and/ or Holidays.
  • Maintenance management software experience
