Job Summary

This position is responsible for public relations, operations and general management functions of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office’s Animal Resources. These functions include interactions with the general public, local agencies and animal welfare organizations, management of Division staff, oversight and operation of the adoption/shelter facility and animal control, budget development and oversight and assuring regulatory compliance.

An essential component of this position is policy and program development, in coordination with local agencies and animal welfare organizations, which will promote public safety/health and animal welfare through the reduction of pet overpopulation within the County. This position will assure effective implementation of the local animal ordinance and the implementation of modern, state-of-practice operations within the animal shelter/ adoption center.

This position must be able to interact in a professional manner and effectively communicate with members of the Sheriff’s Office, health director, county manager, local animal welfare agencies, local elected officials, Board of Health and State regulators to manage and support the work of the Sheriff’s Office and the Public Health Department. This position is expected to operate independently to achieve outcomes and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of progressive administrative, consultative experience in animal services or related service program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience

Certification as a North Carolina Licensed Veterinary Technician (or similar credential from another state that would result in a transferred credential). Graduation from a four-year college or university in a program related to public or business management. Understanding of county government operations and knowledge and understanding of the application and enforcement of laws and ordinances related to animal control. Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze data, draw conclusions/inferences from the analysis, and develop and implement new programs.

Salary

G70: $68,272-87,048; Depending on Qualifications
