ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s Atlanta, GA office is seeking a temporary Archeologist Lab Technician to support our team for upcoming Phase I and II survey work. This position will be based out of the VHB Atlanta office in the Archaeology Laboratory. The Archaeology Lab Technician is responsible for the processing, cataloging, preserving, and analyzing of material recovered from archaeological investigations. In addition, the Archaeology Lab Technician is responsible for assisting the Archaeology Lab Manager with the day-to-day operations of the laboratory. While the primary responsibilities of this job are lab-related, this position may include Phase I field survey work at various locations throughout the US. Hotel room accommodations and meals will be reimbursed for all projects. Field vehicles and transportation to survey areas will also be provided. This position may transition to a permanent role for the right candidate.


Responsibilities

  • Artifact Analysis
  • Artifact Processing and Cataloguing
  • Artifact Photography
  • Artifact Inventory and Curation Preparation
  • Artifact Analysis Reporting, Report Production, and Report Formatting
  • Conduct Phase I and II archaeological fieldworks, including pedestrian survey, shovel testing, and field data recording of soils, artifact finds, and site resources, as needed
  • Assist with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of data using handheld GPS units, as needed
Skills and Attributes
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • High-level knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office software applications (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat/Bluebeam, Microsoft Access)
  • Basic photography/digital camera operation knowledge
  • Ample organizational abilities
  • Ability to handle time-sensitive or time-critical requests
  • Ability to research and apply analytical methods for artifact analysis
  • Familiarity with collection management software
Qualifications
  • 0-1 year of field experience with a range of field methodologies (i.e., survey, testing, excavation, monitoring), whether through coursework or professional experience
  • BA in anthropology, archaeology, or related field
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Cultural resource management internship experience preferred
