Area Forest Manager- Northwest Oregon Area:
The location for this position can be negotiated, but the successful applicant will be required to report to an office within the Northwest Oregon Area with some opportunity for remote work.
Overview
Through oversight and consistent policy interpretation, you will provide aligned direction and leadership for the implementation of the agency’s operational programs (Forest Resources, Federal Forests, Protection, State Forests, and Administration) across 5 districts, the South Fork Forest Camp and the Tillamook Forest Center. This work is accomplished through staff located at 12 offices across the 12 counties within the Northwest Oregon Area. As the Area Forest Manager, you will:
  • Be responsible for all operational functions conducted within the Northwest Oregon Area. You will be the Chief Operating Officer for the Area.
  • Directly supervise 5 district foresters, the Recreation, Education and Interpretation (REI) Manager, State Forest Operations Manager, Assistant to the Area Director, and Area Administrative Support.
  • Serve as a member of the Agency’s Executive Team. The Executive Team provides executive level oversight to all aspects of the Agency by developing policy, setting strategic and operational direction, allocating scarce resources and prioritization of objectives.
  • Agency leadership responsibilities include working with Board of Forestry relations, federal agency collaboration, Government to Government tribal relations, state and federal legislators, external stake holders, Forest Protective Associations, and special interest groups.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ten years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, forest management, etc., which includes
a) development of program rules and policies,
b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans,
c) program evaluation, and
d) budget preparation;
OR
Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and seven years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression or forest management that includes
a) development of program rules and policies,
b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans,
c) program evaluation, and
d) budget preparation.

  • Ability to motivate and lead a team of professional staff to perform high quality work in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Display effective managerial, supervisory, and leadership qualities and is able to perform under stressful conditions involving conflict.
  • Experience with developing budgets and managing expenditures across multiple programs.
