The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) South Valley Office is seeking a person with excellent organizational, interpersonal, supervision and management skills to become part of the leadership team in a challenging and rewarding environment.

The Assistant Area Director (AAD) fulfills a critical role as the second highest DDS management position at the local level. The primary work of DDS occurs at the local level with individuals, families, providers of service, and community partners. The AAD shares the responsibility of overseeing the administrative, clinical and programmatic needs of the Area Office. The AAD acts on behalf of the Area Director on any given day. As a member of the Area Management Team, the AAD works with area staff and providers to develop new residential, day, and support programs, and to shape existing programs to better meet individuals’ needs. The AAD also shares the 24/7 on call duties and has the responsibility to provide management during any emergency or crisis that may occur.

The AAD is responsible for directly supervising a team of staff and will have direct responsibility for completing performance evaluations, and ensuring the work environment is maintained and consistent with negotiated labor contracts and EOHHS policy. The AAD will also provide as needed indirect supervision to other staff.

The AAD should have knowledge of investigations, risk management, family support services, participant directed programs, budgeting and the 688 process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and supervisory skills.
  • Experience working with people diagnosed with autism and/or an intellectual disability.
  • Experience in the prioritization and reconciliation of budgets, creation of new program development and contract management.

Please Note:


Schedule: Monday through Friday: 9:00am – 5:00pm

Days Off: Sunday and Saturday.


Flexibility required to meet the needs of the Area Office.

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have at least (A) five (5) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management of which (B) at least one (1) year must have been in a project management, supervisory or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required (A) experience.

II. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required (A) experience.

III. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required (A) experience.

IV. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the required (A) experience.
