This position reports to the Director of Athletics and Athletic Trainer.


Position Summary:

  • The Assistant Athletic Trainer will be able to demonstrate an ability to perform the following functions regarding athletic injuries: prevention, assessment, treatment, (including first aide) and reconditioning as set forth by the Board of Certification.
  • The Assistant Athletic Trainer will demonstrate proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment.
  • The Assistant Athletic Trainer will carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the student's physician.
  • The Assistant Athletic Trainer will maintain BOC and CPR certification in accordance with those respective institutions.
  • The Assistant Athletic Trainer will cover assigned pre-season physicals, sports games or matches, and related events under the supervision of the athletic director.
  • The Assistant Athletic Trainer must demonstrate knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the athlete’s status and interpret the appropriate information


Primary Responsibilities:

Work with the Head Athletic Trainer to:

  • Maintain appropriate general treatment orders to be reviewed annually and approved by the student's physician.
  • Provide athletic training services for all home athletic contests and some away athletic contest. If a conflict arises between an away and a home contest, the home contest will supersede.
  • Act as liaison between family physicians and specialists, Girard College athletes, and their parents.
  • Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments and provide insurance claim forms for sports injuries treated by a physician.
  • Develop and maintain a budget for the athletic training program.
  • Be present for sports physicals.
  • Provide the coaches and athletic director with a list of athletes medically eligible to compete under district and state rules and regulations.
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:


EXPERIENCE:

At least three years in an athletic training setting preferred. Entry level graduates with BOC certification will be considered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to assist with or transfer athletes of various weight/heights. Must be able to push carts with athletic equipment on them. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, have good mobility skills and be able to walk long distances. Must demonstrate ability to communicate to give adequate directions and instructions to subordinates. Must be able to carry training kit and coolers for long distances.

EXPOSURE CATEGORY/WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will have close contact with patients and is likely to come in contact with blood and body fluids.


SCHEDULE: - Part Time position with no other benefits.

Expected Workdays:

The scheduling of workdays and hours will be done in coordination with the Head Athletic Trainer.


Expected Work Hours:

In Season – The Assistant Athletic Trainer must have a flexible schedule that fits the needs of the Girard College Athletic Department.


  • For Scheduled Practices:
    • Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM-9:00 PM for scheduled practices.
    • Saturday-Sunday, flexible hours according to practice schedule.


  • For Scheduled Games:
    • Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM - 9:00 PM or until the last contest ends.
    • Saturday-Sunday, flexible hours according to game schedule.


  • For Off-Season Workouts:
    • The Assistant Athletic Trainer is expected to be present during scheduled off-season team workouts. Team workouts will last no longer than 3 hours.


NOTE: Each sports season lasts 8 to 10 weeks but could go to 12 weeks if the team makes the playoffs. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is required to be on-site one hour prior to the start of scheduled practices and games Monday – Friday, and Saturday and Sunday if necessary to prepare the athletes for participation. In addition, the Assistant Athletic Trainer is required to attend all home games.
