SUMMARY
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist in the administration and supervision of the athletic training program for all athletic or athletic related programs (drill team/cheerleader, cross country, track & field, football, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball) at Highland Community College.

Position available immediately.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Assist in the administration and supervision of the athletic training program to include the following:
a. Supervision of student athletic trainers;
b. Maintenance of training room and equipment.
2. Assist in providing injury care and prevention for approximately 320 athletes in all sports and athletic related programs.
3. Be familiar with and follow the policies of Highland Community College, the NJCAA, and the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
4. Assist in the administering of substance abuse testing to athletes on a regular basis as defined in the Athletic Department's Substance Abuse Policy.
5. Work continually with the Head Athletic Trainer and coaches to observe, evaluate, and upgrade the total athletic program.
6. Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with recruiting activities for the AT Department.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the supervision of student employees and students who are the recipient of scholarships given by the Head Athletic Trainer. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include selection, training, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Master's degree required in Sports Medicine and/or athletic training area. National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) Certification required. Related experience and/or training desired. Computer experience desired.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common journals, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, management, or members of the community. Ability to write correspondence and other documents that conform to prescribed style and format.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Employee must have the ability to work long hours, day and evening, as relates to program requirements.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with no major infractions over the past five years
