Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (“Company”) is seeking an experienced health care and regulatory attorney to join its fast-paced and collegial in-house legal department. The attorney is responsible for providing legal support to number of key business areas such as provider contracting, network management, and other corporate legal services in support of critical corporate functions and business initiatives.
Key Accountabilities:
Supports professional and hospital provider contracting; advises provider contracting business areas, supports contract negotiations, and assist in drafting complex provider contracts.
Supports clinical coordination efforts, cost and quality improvement initiatives, wellness programs, and finance, audit, communications, and enrollment matters, with a focus on business needs and regulatory compliance.
Facilitates collaborative projects with providers, including member data sharing within legal parameters (including, but not limited to compliance with HIPAA and other privacy rules).
Serves as a law department contact for company operational teams working on cost and quality initiatives.
Advises cross-functional new product development teams with respect to provider network issues.
Supports finance and other contracting in connection with corporate strategic investments.
Helps company achieve business goals in complex regulatory environment. Identifies, analyzes and provides advice with respect to potential legal issues and risks.
Manages large and diverse workload in order to meet business demands at appropriate level of detail consistent with internal and external deadlines.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience negotiating and drafting complex commercial contracts.
Outstanding drafting and communication skills.
Strong organizational and prioritization skills; ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Skill to solve problems independently accompanied by willingness to work as a team member.
Ability to negotiate with and influence third parties in an assertive but constructive manner.
Excellent business acumen and judgment, including ability to place legal risk in proper business context.
Ability to collaborate effectively with leaders and associates in key business areas.
Ability to influence peers and leaders at all levels.
Education/Relevant Experience:
JD degree from ABA-accredited law school.
Active member in good standing of the Massachusetts Bar.
Six or more years of transactional law experience involving contract negotiation and drafting.
Experience in regulatory compliance and health law strongly preferred.
Minimum Education Requirements:
High school degree or equivalent required unless otherwise noted above
