Assistant Hotel Manager

Join our team and help us share our small but mighty town. Our Hopland Hospitality assistant Hotel Manager will help us run two small boutique hotels (Thatcher Hotel and Stock Farm Inn
) in Hopland California (Mendocino County). We are seeking a assistant Hotel Manager that will oversee the day-to-day operations of our two hotels, with a total of twenty-five rooms which include a bar and cafe. We are looking for the right fit for our small team. Someone who can inspire their teams by leading thoughtfully, communicating effectively, and showing appreciation. They will have a keen eye for detail, ensuring the properties is always at brand standards. They will be focused on driving revenue and ensuring expenses stay within budgetary guidelines. Most importantly, the right leader will have a positive attitude and a genuine passion for hospitality. They will enjoy creating guests’ experiences, that bring joy and being hands-on working alongside team members in all areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE STOCK FARM INN, THATCHER HOTEL, BAR THATCHER AND CAFÉ POPPY.

  • Assist in the management of team members, including front desk, bartender, barista, housekeeping, and café team.
  • Maximizes occupancy and revenue by selling as many rooms as possible at an optimized room rate. Participates in the budgeting process and helps achieve budgeted financial goals.
  • Assists in managing online availability through hotel software, ensuring visibility on sites determined by the revenue management team, including Expedia.com; Booking.com; Hotels.com, HotelTonight.com, etc. Assist in ensuring that availability is updated multiple times per week.
  • Handles requests, takes reservations, assists guests with information, dinner reservations, wine tasting, etc. Effectively presents information and responds to questions from managers, vendors, guests, media, and visitors.
  • Handles guest concerns. Is responsible for taking appropriate action within established guidelines. Contact the Manager for all unique circumstances. Always ensure the appropriate response for both guest and the hotel safety.
  • Provides input for preventative maintenance and long-term improvements of the property. Is hands-on in approaching maintenance challenges. Make minor repairs as needed. Requests bids on projects as requested by management and oversee small improvement projects.
  • Provides input on safety reports, reviewing the scheduling of group bookings, and other necessary paperwork.
  • Partners with food and beverage team for bar costs, inventory and menu development
  • Positively represents the company when interacting with local businesses and associations.
  • Always exhibits a high degree of flexibility as is regularly required to assist as necessary with cleaning or helping the team while maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
  • Assist with hiring, training, coaching team members in providing excellent service to guests.
  • Assists on team members schedules and reviews them and can quickly resolve any conflicts to ensure that shifts are filled during peak hours. Schedules according to occupancy and reduces hours in slower months, as necessary to meet budgetary goals.
  • Obtains approval from the manager for new vendors, services, and products prior to ordering. Manages all expenses to meet budgeted net profit goals.
  • Ensures all common areas, as well as back-of-house laundry/storage areas and kitchen, are maintained with the highest standards, focusing on details that impact the guest and team member experience as well as safety considerations.
  • Assist in Completes required safety reports. Remains focused on enhancements, and communicates suggestions to their manager, recognizing that not all will be undertaken.
  • Partners with Food & Beverage Director to ensures quality and health and food safety controls are always followed
  • Maintains a positive and enjoyable environment and can handle guest concerns and diffuse uncomfortable situations to prevent any issues (legal or safety) to arise.
  • Maintains excellent communications with all team members to encourage positive working relationships as well as excellent communication with the team, manager, and owners.
  • Works with management to ensures health and safety controls are always followed and helps facilitate safety meetings for the hotel teams.
  • Stays up to date on local activities and experiences.
  • Is available for after hour calls for certain shifts, and reachable by a guest or the overnight person and understands that superior guest service is required, regardless of the time of day.
  • Is responsible for housekeeping management, employees room Cleanliness and redness.
  • Closes our Folios daily for guest check out.
  • Room Guide creation and updating with weekly local events.
  • Assist in hotel event coordination and implantation.
  • Maintain Stay Thatcher email general email.

SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS/ EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.), preferably in Hotel/Motel Management, from a four-year college or university; 3 plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Must be available to work ALL holidays and weekends AND 40+ HOURS A WEEK.
  • Vacations should be scheduled during our slower months between November – March and excludes holidays. Extended time off requests during April -October may not be granted.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and auto insurance
  • Strong customer service and/or previous hotel/motel experience, including operations, front desk, maintenance, and team membership.
