Assistant Manager Environmental Services


JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for assisting in the management and coordination of the day-to-day operations of cleaning VUMC's hospital rooms in the Adult Hospital. Supervises staff, coordinate projects, manages direct personnel functions and develops and implements policies and procedures. The person in this position will be responsible for 15-20 staff members. We are seeking someone with cleaning experience. Experience supevising other cleaners is preferred.

Position Shift: 2nd shift - 3pm - 11:30pm

The person in this position will work alternating weekends and rotating holidays in this position.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement plans and goals that are consistent with the Medical Center's objectives
  • Assist in the development, implementation, planning, and maintenance of all policies and procedures for the department, as well as recommend ideas, resources, and solutions that will support the mission of VUMC.
  • Prepare work schedules and monitor attendance using established internal departmental tools and resources.
  • Plan work flow and staffing levels to insure quality service, efficient labor utilization, and staffing balance.
  • Ensure the smooth operations of EVS Department staff segment so that quality services are provided to all ancillary and clinical areas within the hospital.
  • Supervise and coordinate departmental projects.
  • Coordinate operational tasks and resolve problems with other department managers to ensure timely and efficient service.
  • Evaluate service and recommend operational and or organizational change.
  • Coordinate activities and problem resolutions with various departments throughout the hospital. Serve as liaison to ensure availability, quality and cost effective resolution to problems.
  • Supervise a section with responsibility for planning, coordination, and controlling day to day operations and procedures, to include daily absence tracking, staff planning, quality monitoring, Kronos editing, and other EVS administrative functions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational and staffing issues by implementing all VUMC policies and practices and EVS departmental policies and practices, to include conflict resolution, progressive discipline, employee recognition, as well as participating in staff recruiting initiatives.
  • Ensure all financial resources are utilized effectively.
  • Assist Manager in budget preparation and staff payroll.
  • Monitor compliance of expenditures to annual budget and determine allocation of department resources to include staff finance and equipment.
  • Supervise staff to ensure a safe, satisfying and enriching environment for employees.
  • Conduct in-service educational program per established guidelines, as well as maintain a vibrant employee recognition program.
  • Conduct hiring, training, evaluation, professional development and salary administration per institutional procedures.
  • Ensure all Quality Standards within assigned area are met.
  • Implement policies and procedures, and maintain quality monitoring and reporting through Qtrax to provide quality assurance.
  • Ensure department functions are in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Qualifications:

Associates Degree (or equivalent experience) and 2 years experience, Cleaning experience and supervisory experience preferred.
