REPORTS TO: PrincipalPERFORMANCE GOAL: Assists the Principal in the areas of Leadership; Curriculum and Instruction; Supervision and Evaluation; Management of Financial, Physical, and Political Resources; and Societal and Multicultural Issues so as to promote student achievement (grades 5-12).PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Curriculum Development, Supervision, and Evaluation1. Knows district and school curriculum and assists the principal in monitoring the teaching of the written curriculum.2. Participates in curriculum development activities commensurate with school and district goals.3.

Provides opportunities and encouragement for staff to increase program expertise.4. Collaborates with department heads and teachers in order to assist the principal in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum.B. Student Assessment and Monitoring1. Emphasizes student academic achievement and social and emotional development as the primary outcomes of the school program.2.

Provides for the appropriate placement of students.3. Participates in identifying at-risk students and works with the student, parents, and guidance personnel to develop appropriate programmatic plans to meet their needs; Facilitates RTI meetings.4. Administers the distribution of progress reports and report cards.5. Attends 504 meetings as needed.6.

Participates in Special Needs Team meetings when deemed appropriate.C. Student and Staff Relations1. Demonstrates positive and supportive interactive skills and facilitates the development of good collegial relationships among staff.2. Recognizes the efforts of students and teachers through written and verbal communications.3.

Serves as administrative liaison with the Student Council. Conducts monthly meetings with Student Council officers.4. Encourages and supports teacher- and student-initiated projects that foster a positive school climate.5. Identifies and coordinates appropriate assembly programs.D.

Establishing an Effective Workplace1. Collaborates with the principal to develop and maintain positive staff morale.2. Implements the districts Discipline Code of Conduct and works with the principal to make code revision recommendations to the District Discipline Committee when appropriate.3. Coordinates and monitors the student discipline programs.4.

Plans, implements, and evaluates absence and lateness policies and procedures with the principal to effect improvement in student attendance.5. Assists the principal in setting and meeting appropriate school-wide objectives on an annual basis.6. Assists the principal in organizing and supervising school-related activities.7. Maintains high visibility and accessibility in the school.8.

Assists the principal in developing the master schedule.9. Administers and monitors teacher supervisory assignments and duties.10. Shares the responsibility of discipline and student control with the principal.E. Professional Development1.

Assists the principal in identifying, planning, and implementing staff development programs in accordance with assessed needs.2. Collaborates with the principal to develop and implement individualized instructional improvement programs when necessary.3. Works with teachers to develop and implement objectives for themselves and students through conferencing and information sharing.4. Provides opportunities for teachers to share and demonstrate successful practices.F.

Staff Supervision and Personnel Evaluation1. Conducts classroom observations and conferences and writes thorough and meaningful reports.2. Assists the principal in making personnel assignments based on knowledge of employees ability, qualifications, past performance, and school needs.3. Collaborates with the principal regarding the evaluation system and assists the principal in its implementation.G.

Communications1. Develops communications that reflect and support management team decisions and School Committee policies.2. With the principals knowledge, keeps district office administrators informed of district-related activities and problematic situations.3. Conferences with students individually and in groups as needed and keeps students informed of planned activities and procedural issues.4.

Communicates and works with district office, supervisory personnel, and other administrators to share ideas, problems, expertise, resources, and personnel.5. Provides ongoing information to the principal regarding school-related activities, programs, and problematic situations.H. Decision Making and Problem Solving1. Assists the principal in the alignment of school practices with School Committee policies giving due consideration to related research, alternatives available, and possible consequences.2.

Demonstrates sound judgment in decision making in areas of responsibility and establishes and communicates procedural requirements to implement action plan.3. Consults the principal and other appropriate sources prior to making important school-related decisions.4. Assists the principal in the interviewing of candidates for professional and support positions in the schools.I. Community Relations1.

Serves as liaison between the school and the local police and fire departments to promote communication and cooperation.2. Assists in developing a sound school-community relationship by: providing information working with student organizations to foster community involvement attending meetings responding to expressed community needs3. Works with the principal and guidance personnel to organize parent visitations and to consider parent concerns and recommendations when making decisions.4. Assists the principal in providing appropriate programs for parents and community audiences.J.

Personnel Development1. Participates in professional organizations, workshops, and conferences to gain information regarding the latest developments in the various aspects of administration and instructional programming.2. Represents the principal, upon request, at meetings and functions that the principal is unable to attend.3. Recognizes own areas needing improvement and works toward self-growth and -improvement.K.

Building Management1. Assumes leadership of the school in the absence of the principal.2. Collaborates with the principal to establish and maintain rules and procedures for student and staff safety.3. Assists the principal in monitoring plant, office, and equipment maintenance.4.

Works with appropriate personnel to supervise and monitor parking on school grounds as well as bus transportation.5. Conducts periodic inspections of the school building and grounds and reports needed work and repairs to the appropriate persons.6. Effectively implements school and district action plans in crisis and emergency situations.L. Record Keeping and Financial Management1.

Maintains accurate personnel, student, and fiscal records.2. Works with the principal to prepare accurate budgets and monitor expenditures.3. Provides information to the principal for required district reports.4.
