Assistant Shipping Manager Job Description
I. Position Purpose
Reporting to the Shipping Manager, this position is responsible for providing leadership and interdepartmental coordination. This position is involved with and has responsibilities for the scheduling of packaging and bulk shipping, maintaining thorough communication with sales and milling departments, monitoring and routinely reporting on the progress of the execution of packaging of product, bulk loading, shipping of bagged and bulk product. This position is responsible for ensuring all packaging and shipping materials are stocked for upcoming orders. This position is also responsible for ensuring the health safety & food safety of all employees on the shipping and packaging departments. This position is responsible for aligning the shipping and packaging operations in accordance with other company functions to the Vision, Values and Strategic Objectives of this organization.
II. Position Responsibilities and Duties
The responsibilities and associated duties for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Shipping Responsibilities
· Inspect and complete necessary paperwork on a daily basis.
· Lead all shifts in the shipping department to ensure all tasks are completed in a safe and timely manner.
· Coordinate schedule with mill to ensure production aligns with shipping.
· Daily communication with sales and trucking/rail to ensure on time delivery.
· Ensuring adherence to packaging, load-out, and mill production schedules.
· Utilizing good manufacturing processes.
· Evaluate performance of operations to provide feedback to Shipping Manager.
· Monitor key indicator for quality, productivity, and utilization.
· Responsible for quality of work within area.
· Maintain an accurate inventory on daily basis.
· Assist in the development in the SOP program and ensure compliance with procedures.
· Maintain work environment in a clean and orderly fashion inspection ready at all times.
· Supervise bulk load out, packaging and hominy load out.
· Utilize the IMS and SPC where applicable.
General Management and Leadership
· Ensure all regulatory compliance.
· Ensure proper staffing, training, and adherence to area SOP’s.
· Follow established Human Resources procedures.
· Foster a team working environment.
· Ensure that ongoing continuous improvement is achieved.
· Foster good working relationships with other departments.
· Administer Coaching where needed.
· Utilize the Integrated Management System.
Supervisory
· Provide input on hourly employee performance reviews.
Quality, Safety and Sanitation
· Maintain a safe work environment.
· Ensure customer specifications and needs are achieved.
· Maintain work area and sanitation level at a BRC AA level.
· Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices.
· Adhere to HARPC.
Open Communications to be a team-player and do other tasks as necessary.
III. Essential Skills
This position actively engages in daily operations and is engaged in cross-functional management teams to develop and support policies and procedures in accordance with the company Vision, Vales and Strategic Objectives. In addition, good oral and written communication skills, computer literacy, strong leadership skills, organizational skills, and the ability to effectively work with and direct a team environment are critical. This position requires computer literacy, exceptional leadership skill, superior origination of oneself and subordinates.
Education Level:
High School Diploma or GED
Related Experience:
5 years of supervisory experience
Ability to motivate through hands-on leadership
Organizational ability
Verbal, written and math proficiency
Packaging or process experience preferred
IV. Physical and Mental Requirements
This position requires physical and mental alertness, attentiveness and stamina for the length of an entire 8-12 hour work shift each day. Occasional to frequent lifting of 50-100 pounds, frequent changing from a seated to standing position and occasional to frequent stair climbing are all physical demands of this position.
