Summary

The Assistant Superintendent supports the General Superintendent, Project Superintendent or Project Manager by carrying out all project duties and activities delegated to the Assistant Superintendent to him/her.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

All duties and activities are delegated to the Assistant Superintendent by the Project Superintendent. Customarily delegated duties and responsibilities include:

Coordinate working drawings and shop drawings.

Directs the foremen, field engineers and project coordinators, as required by Project.

Expedite and coordinate the delivery of materials.

Maintain liaison with the Owner and Architect representatives, when appropriate.

Receive and distribute drawings, specifications, and other contract documents in coordination with the project management staff.

Assist with field purchasing for the project.

Assist in the preparation, monitoring and updating of the project schedule.

Assist in completion of project close-out activities, including completing items from corrective action lists and punch lists.

Coordinate work in place quantities and labor cost coding.

Performs work in a safe manner and actively encourages others to do the same.

Internal Interfaces with:

Project Management Staff - coordinate shop drawings, expedite materials and coordinate with assigned duties.

External Interfaces:

Trade Partners and Vendors - ensure the delivery of required materials and adherence to schedule. Architects and Consultants - obtain information regarding changes and clarification of drawings.

Authority:

No formal authority is vested in the Assistant Superintendent. The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for performing all work as directed by his/her supervisor or deemed appropriate.

Accountability:

The Assistant Superintendent is accountable for the successful completion of those duties and activities delegated by his/her supervisor.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.S., or B. Arch.) in Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction or Business Management from a four-year (five-year in Architecture) college or university; or 3 - 7 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to client top management, Russell corporate senior management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
