The Role

The Assistant Vice President, Risk Management, will assist the Senior Vice President, Risk Management, in the day-to-day administration of ARA’s risk management strategies and insurance programs and will take the lead on the construction related insurance placements and single-family rental portfolio.

This role is based in either one of ARA’s downtown Los Angeles or Chicago offices. Candidates will be expected to be local residents and commute to the office.

Essential Functions

  • Assume the primary role of the design and management of the property and liability programs of insurance for the single-family rental portfolio.
  • Lead the placement of required coverage for development projects in line with overall risk management strategies.
  • Work to support the risk information system including policy administration, and data management.
  • Support SVP to assemble the underwriting information for the various programs
  • Work with the SVP to achieve optimum program of risk retention and risk transfer through insurance, risk engineering and contract negotiations.
  • Serve as a central point of contact concerning premium payments, premium allocations, and asset acquisition budgets.
  • Interface with asset managers, lenders, property managers, leasing agents, buyers, sellers, and internal and external counsel on technical insurance and risk management matters.
  • Contribute to the management of our third-party vendor services for various data platforms specific to the risk management team.
  • Support the development and delivery of risk management programs to the organization, including meaningful communication and coordination inside and outside the organization.

Candidate Qualifications

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a major in business, real estate, finance, accounting, or similar background required.
  • Continuing education or coursework in insurance such as CPCU, ARM, CRM, and INS designations preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in risk management focused on insurance programs, premium payments, brokers, and claims management.
  • Experience in a collaborative risk management department with a proactive approach towards avoiding and minimizing risk, preferred.
  • Experience with Riskonnect software is preferred.

Job Specifications

  • Expected work hours: 8:30 to 5:30, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends.
  • Travel: Business trips with overnight stays may be required. Occasionally may need to drive a personal vehicle for business.
  • Work environment and physical demands: General office environment.

COMPENSATION

Estimated Salary: $125,000 to $225.000. Actual compensation will vary based on candidate’s qualifications, education, and experience
