Academic Counseling/Recruiting:

Monitor and coordinate the academic progress of assigned student-athletes throughout their academic careers; monitor the academic eligibility of assigned student-athletes; assist in the development of academic goals for each assigned student-athlete; communicate with coaches of assigned teams as to the academic progress of student-athletes; establish relationships with academic departments; assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes; monitor APR/GSR information and strategies for assigned teams; recruit former student-athletes for the purpose of completion of degrees; adhere to NCAA, SEC, and University rules and regulations; evaluate transcripts of prospective transfer student-athletes; etc.


Communications (Oral and Written):

Correspond with instructors, coaches, student-athletes and parents related to academic progress monitoring; Program developmental/special projects for high need student athletes; Discussions with campus administrators related to the recruitment and retention of student-athletes (Advising Centers, Admissions/Records, Financial Aid, Athletics).


Staff/Program Oversight:

As a leader within the Thornton Center, provide leadership and support to overall program vision and operation. Discuss and carry out program planning and implementation. Direct supervision of graduate assistants assigned to this position.


Position Requirements

Education:

Master's Degree in Counseling, Student Development, Sports Administration or related field.


Experience:

Three to four years in student-athlete support services, academic advising, teaching, or counseling. Experience working with diverse populations. Knowledge of NCAA and SEC rules and regulations.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent written and oral communication skills; computer proficiency with many software programs; excellent organizational skills; ability to handle several responsibilities/ projects simultaneously; ability to work independently without much supervision; ability to work with a diverse staff and student population.
